Angry Need to vent!

Hi I'm a newbie and Insurance co. sent a checklist of things that they required for the surgery, well the Doc and I were prepared for this at least I thought we were, the paperwork was sent in this morning, the only problem was that the Ins co. wanted a list of diets for the last 2 years or gym membership proof, I can only prove for the last year of dieting through my doctor, but the rest were like Medfast, Atkins, Almased, liquid diets, but of course I have no proof of that unless they would like to see the 3 cases of diet books I still have LOL! Has anyone else had this problem? Am I having anxiety about this to soon? Nurse said this could be a set back that could last a year! ...Virginia

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Yes. My insurance company wanted proof of at least one medically supervised diet plan of at least 6 months duration. I had participated in one for 8 months in 2002. I got a letter from them stating the facts and forwarded it to my insurance company. This let me out of their supervised diet plan. BUT, I now had to participate in a nutrition education class that lasted 4 months. You too may have to do this. There have been more than one post about this diet or nutrition requirement, so make sure you know all you need to do instead of being "surprised" at the last moment.

What I did was join Weight Watchers right when I signed up with a surgeon and started to go through there whole process. I sent a fax of my progress at weight watchers every week to the Dr. office and after about 3 months they submitted all my paperwork and I got approved. Do you have any comorbities?(high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, arthritis) I had them all and I think that helped push the approval along.

My suggestion to all who are considering considering surgery to find out what is required, so they can start even that early out making sure they jump thru all the hoops ~ think how strong you'll be from all the jumping - LOL! It is frustrating, but with a whole year under your belt, maybe they'll accept that~~~ Good luck!

Yikes, sorry to hear this. I know that it is so difficult trying to get through what every insurance co wants...as they all seem to be different. Just make sure that you dont forget anything that you have tried! Good Luck!

This is crazy, my guess is that the system simply does not want to pay, I guess that if you can't pay for your operation, you will have to take the long route torwards the operation.

I am sorry that you have to go through this, I myself was overweight all my life my worse case scenario was 360 pounds but I always was from 260 after a diet and then bounced back to 300, so I know I did not keep any record of my adventures up and down the scale.....

I hope you do have the chance to convince these guys to pull your operation through, QUESTION CAN YOU SHOW THEM PICTURES OF PAST YEARS SO THEY CAN SEE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM NOT A WAY OF LIFE......

Actually,I had to give my weight History for my entire life, yes I am serious. It was a three page thesis and on top of it I know they read it all because they said I had some breaks in the time spans and had to account for all my life. I did not have to prove memberships or anything but they did ask for extensive history from me. Hope things workk out as soon as poss. for you. Kathy

Hi yes I do have alot of pics, and if I could get the Ins co. to see how much they would be saving, my meds a month are $1,850 and that does not include the Docs I see a month on a regular bases. I forgot to tell Smease I also see a therapist for depression twice a month. I'm gonna sign up with weight watchers like Smease said. That seem to be the only problem with them, everything else that was requested from Ins co was faxed. ...Virginia...
