How did it take you to get approved and have surgery, from start to finish?

I just got my approval from insurance and my surgery date yesterday. My whole process started June 2007 and my surgery date is August 5th 2008. I had to do a 6 month supervised diet with a physician and do a bunch of requirements for my insurance so mine may have taken longer than most. But once my stuff was submitted to insurance, it only took a week for them to approve me.

First of all what beautiful babies.

12/07 primary doc, did blood work
12/06 I seminar
1/07 first doctor appt
2/07 dietician consultaion
2/07 psychistrist
3/07 & 4/07l paperwork misplace several times from primary doc to surgeon. it took 4 tries to be exact.
4/07 paperwork sent to insurance
5/07 approved
6/07 surgery

Your children are beautiful!!!!! I started my actual journey in Nov. 2006 ( I reaearched it for 13 months before making my appt.), My surg. was June 25 2007, I couldve' had it in Apr. but I chose to wait till I was off for the summer. Kathy

My seminar was June 13th 2007 and my surgery is July 1st. I also had to have 6 months nut. and I had to change some appointments this past winter because of bad weather so it took me longer to get through the program.I could of had my surgery last month but wanted to wait until school was out so I would have the summer to feel better.

3 weeks total. and that was putting the surgery off an extra week due to a scheduling conflict. i went to a seminar the last week in march, did all my pre-op stuff the following week, had the approval in my hand the week after that, i had my surgery april 19 (2007)

I started the process in Dec 07 and finally have a date Aug 4, 08. So 9 months for me. Wish it could be sooner, but it's in God's hands.

Having WLS was first put in my thoughts in 2005 when my gallbladder was removed. The doc said that I really need to loose weight to prevent future health problems. I tried on my own and would loose 20-30 just to gain back that and even more. Then in 2007 I was having pains in my right upper side and saw a liver doc and informed me it was fatty liver disease and really talked hard to me to loose weight to reduce the liver, and if I cannot then I should think about WLS, he would see me in 6 months. At the same time I was put on high blood pressure meds, acid reflux meds and glucophage to treat my PCOS and Pre-diabetes. So over the course of last year to the beginning of this year I lost 20-30 lbs again just to gain most all back before my next visit with the liver doc. So by then I was ready for him to refer me to someone, I felt great that my family doc referred me to the same Doctor. You can see below my timeframe of how long it took after that. My insurance did not require any supervised diets. I had qualifying health problems too that made the approval. Hope this helps someone out there wondering how to start this process, I loved looking up this stuff when I was waiting my first appt. with the doc.

I started pursuing things summer of 2005. I was denied the first time around Christmas of that year. Tried again October 07 and was denied and appealed and tried again in November but was denied again between Christmas & New Years 2007. So I technically have NEVER been approved but don't need to be now as I had a clinical trial surgery. It was an emotional rollercoaster through the denials.
