Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi not sure why it is so long but I think that is a great thing! There is so much to learn with this surgery and not only about what to eat but what to expect emotionally and it sounds like with that amount of time you should have a great idea of what to expect all around. Good luck and congrats on your first step! Enjoy and learn all you can!!! |

| Super Moderator | Yes, despite all the research you have done, there's always something new you will learn. Consider it time for yourself to prepare for all aspects of the surgery, so you will be able to take whatever happens to you in stride, and can have a smoother and better recovery, and be able to deal well with the maintenance phase, which will be for the rest of your life. Compared to the rest of your life, a few months in preparation is not so long. (((((((((HUGS))))))))))

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | WOW congratulations on that first step and the sessions ahead for you. I think these sessions will benifit you! ALL the best and good luck and keep us posted on your journey. I do think this is starting to become a new requirement of surgery as my surgeons office has to now offer pre ops therapy groups sessions. THEY used some post ops (i was in the group) to learn from us to be able to hold thise in the near future for the new pre ops and i do believe its just another added want from the insurance companies for approval. I think its awesome because at about 10 months out i needed to get in some weight management councling sessions. This surgery is a tool and we still have to learn to eat healthy and break old habits before they creep back in to our lives. GOOD luck and i bet you will get so much from these informative sessions.

I can tell you that it wont hurt to try to loose weight right now. I started this journy at 314 lbs and on 6/26. On 7/26 was my first consult and I had only lost 4.1 lbs Not too great but I hadnt started working out nor did I give up carbs or start totally watching what I was eating. Once I met with my surgeon he told me some weight loss would be great and if not to maintain but dont gain. I read the binder of paper work on what to expect in the up coming weeks and there it was a 1200 calorie a day diet for preop patients, plus walking at least 1/2 a mile a day. As of today I am down 18.75 lbs (since the 314) and I am walking more then a mile a day. My goal for the next 12 days is to loose 6.5 more lbs before my next appt on 9/1. Im ready to knock his socks off!

| Super Moderator | Up and down days are quite normal. People around you will say something and you will will be swayed by them, or something you read, etc etc. It's quite normal. If you have the time to read through everyone's posts, you will notice that every single person who has been on this board since before their surgery have up and down days, and have posted about them. Keep in mind why you decided to go for the surgery. You health, what you can do now, what you can't do when you would like to, things like that. It may help you to make a list of what you need to do to improve your present quality of life, and what you would like to do, once you are able to lost the excess weight that you carry now. Good luck with your journey, ![]()

Height: | Yes, up and down is quite normal, and no losing weight pre-op is not a bad thing, but I would still plug away at the hoops for surgery in the meantime so that you are that close. Remember if you are approved and ready to rock, you can always opt out, but if you don't start the process and are frustrated by the results of your diet...it will take longer. Best of luck. Janae |
