| I Am Now Really Stressed Out WELL I WENT TO MY DOC APP THIS MOURNING , AND EVERYTHING WAS GOING GREAT UNTIL , HE ASKED ME ABOUT MY ISSUES WITH ANXIETY, I TOLD HIM THAT I WAS ON MEDS FOR A LONG TIME BUT THEY WERE NOT HELPING , THEY WERE MAKING ME FEEL WORSE, SO I WENT OFF THEM AND I HAVE BEEN OFF FOR 3 OR 4 MONTHS, HE SAID HE WAS CONCERNED WITH MY ABILITY TO HANDLE STRESS AFTER THE SURGERY, I TOLD HIM I DO NOT TURN TO FOOD WHEN I HAVE A ATTACK BECAUSE IT DOE NOT MAKE ME FEEL ANY BETTER. BUT HE SAID THE PCHYOGIOLIST WOULD SPEAK TO ME MORE ABOUT. AND THE TEST HE WOULD GIVE ME WOULD TAKE A 2 HOURS OR SO. WHAT AM I TO EXPECT IN THE TEST WHAT SHOULD I NOT SAY. I AM SO WORRIED THAT THIS IS GOING TO HOLD ME UP, WHEN I KNOW I AM FINE, I HAD ANXIETY ISSUES BEFORE I HAD MAJOR WEIGHT ISSUES THEY ARE NOT LINKED.

Don't panic - the surgeon and the psychologist are two different people - when you explain your position to the psychologist and talk things through with him he may very well see that your past anxiety issues won't be an issue now. Be honest, be sure of yourself (without being defensive - that may worry the psychologist) and you should be fine. Good luck!

I had to answer all these true/false questions...on 2 different tests...you should do fine....talk with the psychiatrist too...they have the final say on the recommendation to the doctor!

I would be completely honest with the psych. It is only to protect you, not to deny you something that you want or need.

You MUST be honest with the psych, especially about using or not using your medications.
Be honest, but DON'T feel you must defend any position you have made regarding any issues with your anxiety or medications. That may worsen his/her feelings of your readiness for the responsibility to handle the post-op experience.

It is a bunch of questions and a lot of them are about everyday life. Answer truthfully. When the psych started telling me about my personality and such from the test answers she was right on the nose with it. And be honest about the anxiety. They can only help you if you are. Don't sweat it, they will get all the answers from the test and believe me it is much more thorough than just your surgeon talking to you.

The interview/tests are to help you, not hinder you. Plus, these people are pros, they will know when you are not saying all, they just don't let you know they see that, and depending on how you do with the appt, that you didn't say all will work against you, or they may consider that you are stable enough that what you chose not to say will not make a difference.
