Default Psych eval concerns.

Hello everyone My name is Ali, I am 23 years old 5' and 313lbs. After trying to get the ball rolling over 6months ago I FINALLY got a call back and my consultation is scheduled for December 4th. I am really worried about the psych eval part of it. I had some pretty rough patches in my past and have suffered from depression my whole life. I was put in a ward for 5 weeks when I was 17 and used to have a pretty bad self mutilation problem. I am in therapy and have been doing fine. I have been off all meds probably for a year although I do still have depression, I learn to deal with it with other things... like eating? Anyway I NEED this surgery, I need a total new stomach to work with, I need a new start. I understand it is a total lifestyle change and I am ready to begin. Do you think my past will be held against me? I'm really nervous.
Thank you.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

My test was like a 5 page Q & A thing and then she went over and asked me a couple of questions that she had. I have suffered w/ major depression and anxiety issues for many years. You will find that a lot of us here have many issues and turned to food for our comfort. This is not an easy journey and that is what they want to find out to see if you can handle it.

I don't think you have anything to worry about though, sounds like you have nipped it in the bud. Good Luck

Welcome to the board, thank you for joinng us.
Pull up a chair, relax, and please enjoy yourself here.

Be totally honest with your psych eval. That is what they are looking for. You won't be denied due to your past issues if they are under good control and you are doing well now. You won't be denied if you are still under psych care if your condition is stable. It's only if you have undiagnosed issues, or if your diagnosed issues are not being treated/controlled, that can result in a denial, and even then, if they tell you to get some medical attention/therapy and do so, you will be approved after that.

This journey is as much a mental journey as a physical one (you yourself say, food is one of your coping methods, and you will lose that with surgery, so you will have to develop other healthy coping methods) so take all the help they offer you.

((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

I was a "cutter" as a teen and young adult. They just want you to be honest and make sure you have taken steps to fix these problems. This is such a mental journey they want to be sure you are up for it.

What they are mainly looking for is whether you will be able to mentally and emotionally adjust to the lifestyle changes from surgery. Your ability to adapt is crucial.
