Default How I qualified

My insurance required pre-existing conditions that inhibited weight loss, doctor-prescribed medications, and referrals to a nutritionist and dietitian. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2002, prescribed metformin (which the doctor warned me "don't lose weight too fast" - right), and prescribed phentermine by an endocrinologist in 2005. My bypass surgeon referred me to a pulminologist who diagnosed me with severe sleep apnea last month, so now I have a cpap machine (I hate it). I still take metformin, two medications for blood pressure and a statin drug for high cholesterol. The phentermine raised my bp so I stopped taking it against the doctor's wishes after 3 months.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I also have that stupid cpap machine. I don't use it. It feels like there is a leach stuck to your face the whole night. Who can sleep like that? I also take Metformin but for TypeII diabetes. Good luck on your journey. I am sure all will go well.

You may not like the CPAP, but you had better to get used to it, you are going to clang ALL the alarms ALL the time unless you take it with you to the hospital and use it while you are still in recovery, fuzzy from the anesthesia. A lot of the hospitals actually require their patients to bring their CPAP when going in for surgery. It also may take some adjustments, so if you feel uncomfortable with it, then talk with whichever place that put you on CPAP and have it adjusted.
Also, sleep apnea is much more life threatening than you think, so, I must tell you not to take make light of CPAP.

My dad hates his CPAP, but considering what the MD told him what would happen if he did not use it, he uses it.

The doc told him Dad could stop breathing in his sleep. Dad said, "So? Isn't it everyone's dream to die in their sleep?" The doc told him the vast majority don't die, but instead have strokes or heart attacks and then live years, now dependent upon the care of others.

So, CSA...you now qualify...Are you considering the surgery? Good luck either way.

One more note: My husband says that I have not snored loud, like I used to, since I had the surgery. That is good...we BOTH now get better rest.

If you have a CPAP please use it. I don't want to scare anyone but my Dad did not use his and the constant apnea enlarged his heart to the point he is now in CHF. Of course this was YEARS and YEARS of it, but please take care of yourself!

I have the CPAP now and I've used it for two nights. I find myself waking up once or twice, so I stop the machine and restart it. They have my pressure really high and I always hit the button that drops the pressure then gradually increases over time. I wake up with an extremely dry mouth and a headache. Not sure why I get the dry mouth, because I fill the water reservoir in the humidifier every night.

I absolutely love my CPAP machine. It's sometimes annoying because you wake up and have the lines on your face for a little while. But I sleep better (I actually enter REM instead of hardly sleeping at all) and my husband sleeps so much better as well. A few siblings have CPAPs and we're trying to convince our dad to get tested for sleep apnea.

If your mask feels uncomfortable or the pressure is too much, go back to the place where you got your machine and tell them they need to adjust it for you. I can't sleep without my machine and I've had it since Sept 2008.
