Default what to expect after the lapband sergury

So I had my first appt today and I should find out if I am approved in the next few weeks. The Drs office said I should have no problem getting approved. I would like to get any advice I am leaning toward the LapBand. I am scared but excited all in one. So if anyone can give me any advise that would be great

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
(((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.

There are a number of threads in the Types of Weight Loss Surgery subforum, so taking a look there might be good.
Unfortunately, we don't have many banders on here yet, so you may not be able to get direct answers from othe lap banders.

Started out going for lap band, but changed my mind later to have RNY instead. My choice was made due to the fact I was diabetic and the band was not going ot address that as much as well as taking too long to lose the weight would be discouraging for me and my dr said RNY woudl benefit me better in hte long run.

I started out thinking of lap band also. I switched to RNY. There is a lot of fine tuning with the lap band...fills and such. I opted for the RNY because the success rate is higher. I can't tell how much weight you have to lose as you don't have your stats filled in but...if you have 75lbs or less...I say its a wonderful choice. I just had to much to lose and wanted the surgery that had the highest rate of success for weight loss.

I, like you, was so uncertain about which surgery I wanted. Lap band or RNY? It was a tough decision. I went on the banders web sites and asked questions and read their posts. The one thing that seemed consistant to me was the slow weight loss. Some had only lost 50 pounds in a year. A lot of them were having overfills and unfills and a lot of puking and something called productive burping. Way too much for me. I am a simple girl. My philosophy is get in, get it done, get out, heal and move on with life. I've wasted enough of my life centered around my weight. I want it to stop and get on with living. I don't want to spend the next year or more running back and forth getting filled and unfilled. Big decision, only your's to make.

I have my surgery date. It is February 12,2009. Can't wait. Looking forward to restarting my life.

I guess it is personal choice. Some swear by the band and others swear by the RNY. When I was trying to decide, I went on the banders site. While I was reading their posts I noticed they weren't really hating their band but in normal conversation they were always talking about getting stuck, productive burping (like vomiting), sliming, swelling after a fill and having to go back to liquid then mushee diet after every fill and some even after a stuck episode. Too much maintainance for me. Once I get this surgery and get my 1 year in, I will not spend all of my time focused on my weight. Too much living to do.

Hey neighbor,
I live in Louisa county, the next county over except there's a big lake between us. LOL

I had the RNY and don't regret it at all. The band sounds like a pain, though if you have to pay for it yourself then it's the cheaper option. But since you have insurance I would say go for the RNY. Good luck on your journey.
