Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.
It's going to depend a lot on your general health as well as age, and on the surgeon.
The oldest person on this board was in the early 60s, so the best thing is to talk it over with the surgeon of your choice.

Hello i was 57 last year when I had my surgery. I have had a very smooth journey so far. The only regret I have is that I did not do it sooner. It has truly changed my life.

I, too, was 57 at the time of surgery and turned 58 a month later. I was, and stilll am, in very good health. Like dixieladybug said, my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. Check with your doctor, and if he/she gives you the go-ahead, I say GO FOR IT!!! It's the best gift you'll ever give yourself.

Us >50s had more tests before surgery...cardiac clearance, mammogram, that sort of thing. As soon as those were all clear, so was the surgery.
I was just shy of 51.

You are definitely NOT too old. I'm going to be 54 in Oct., and I had my first consultation meeting a couple of weeks ago and my doctor told me I was youngin.

I certainly hope not, 'cause I'm 62 and just had my first visit with the dietician to begin my 3 month qualifying diet to satisfy the insurance co. The doctor had no problem with my age, told me I should sail thru...of course I still have to have the head doc & the heart doc say OK, but I don't see a problem. I'm active, love my life, want to stick around a few more years without compounding my health problems with obesity. Go for it.

There is a patient at the university where I go and he is 76 and had his surgery late last year. I think it's more by the health of the person than the age. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide!
