Default The dietician said WHAT!

I finally got in to see the dietician after several reschedules (hers & mine) and it was a total joke. Why in the world do insurance co's require this? It's not as if we don't know how/what to eat. Most of us have been thru several, many, all the weight loss programs out there.

And she actually said, "Don't lose any weight." !!! When my eyebrows hit my hairline, she ammended it to, "Oh, you can lose 5 or 10 pounds over the next three months, but don't lose to much or your insurance co. may decide that you don't need the surgery."

She didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know. So...I have to spend money out of my pocket, visit her four times over three months, to satisfy the insurance plan. Sound like a delaying tactic. I really have a low opinion of the ins. co and it seems to be echoed by all the nurses and doctors I am talking to. But..to do this I WILL play their games and go thru the motions. I feel better now...vent, vent, grumble. I must be patient, I must be patient.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Awwww(((((((HUGS)))))))))
Considering that you are the age bracket where you had Home Ec in school, you probably know more about good foods and nutrition than the average Jane out there, which probably is what the nut doesn't know/understand because I'm pretty sure she is much younger than you--and may consider herself that she knows everything better than you Which you know ain't the truth I was rather surprised to find out that Home Ec isn't mandatory any more in US schools, you get to learn a lot that is useful in daily living through that course

My nutritionist didn't tell me that, but I did figure out how much I could lose and still qualify, since I didn't have any co-morbidities. I couldnt' go below 40 BMI. I knew most of what my nutritionist told me but there were a few new things I did learn from her. Hmm... I also had mandatory home economics in school and didn't realize it was no longer required. Must be due to the "budget cuts". I wonder what will be taught by the time my kids reach high school.

The nut appointments I had for my surgeon's requirements were very helpful - especially the details on how to eat after surgery. I had to unlearn all the things that the nut from the insurance program's requirments stressed. Good grief what a total waste of time the required insurance program was. Yes, I played thier games too and I'm really glad to be on the other side now.

Sue, we have all been right where you are. You do have to jump through the ins. co's hoops for them to even consider you. Stick with what they ask you to do, and good luck on your journey.

I was self pay for my surgery and the doctor that I had for losing weight, not my gastric bypass surgery doctor, this was a doctor who helps people out to lose weight that have to lose weight before surgery. This doctor told me to watch that I do not lose to much weight or the gastric bypass doctor will think that I can do it on my own without surgery. I just lost enough weight to have a safe surgery.

I totally relate to the nut. comment you made. At my first nut. visit all she did was read directly out of the Gastic Bypass Owers Manual they gave me a month previous to my appointment with her. I thought to myself "you mean I drove and hour and a half for someone to read out of a book that I have read a thousand times". Such a let down. Hang in there maybe she'll move on to another practice. LOL

Some of it is silly, but just go through their program. Having the surgery is so worth it. For the first time in my life, I was able to lose weight and not gain it all back. I used to join Weight Watchers every Spring and lose about 25 pounds. The next year I would join again and be 30 pounds heavier than when I left. I started to realize that all the other people there were doing the same thing.

The difference between dieting and WLS is that the weight does not come right back.

I was wondering that too. I am, or was before disability, a registered nurse and I KNOW what I should eat and what I shouldn't eat. THAT isn't the problem! The problem is WILLPOWER and hypothyroidism!
