Default Medicall supervised diet?

I know this probably sounds like a dumb question but what is considered a medically supervised diet? I have to have 6 months of this before I will be considered for Wls. I have an appointment with my PCP in two weeks to talk about it and was wondering what kinds if any have you all been on and how you coped with waiting that long!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hello. I had to have that for my insurance. I went to my regular doctor and was on a 1500 calorie a day diet and I had to weigh in at least once a month and have vitals checked and a record of this for 6 months. I did pass pretty fast. I know it seem like a lot to do but believe me it is so worth it. I would do it again in a heart beat. It has been life saving for me. Good luck ....

Its pretty much your PCP doing it. Unless they have record of you already them trying you on WL diets at least 6 month long and you didnt suceed. This is where i would start.

Yup to what both Ms Vickie and Dixie said. My insurance wanted either a year of monthly visits with my PCP or 6 months with a doctor in the program that my surgeon had going. Most insurance company's and some surgeons require the 6 months of monthly visits to see how your are doing weight wise and they document all of this. They want to see how committee you are to this new journey. It was close to 2 months from the night of the siminar to the day I seen the doctor. I did have a sooner appt but had to reschdule because I couldn't get off of work. Low and behold I had gained 12 pounds during this time. I'm telling you this because at first my head was not in the right place but once I started and knew I had to weigh in monthly I was gun ho to go. I lost 43 lbs pre-op during this 6 months. Doctor put me on 1,200 cal diet. I replaced my lunch with a protein drink and cut out the junk. The time went fast and I have No reqrets.

Stay here on this site it will get you through.

I was on WW for 1 1/2 years when I decided to get the surgery. My PCP told my insurance that I had joined based on her recommendation and that she had monitored my progress. I had all of my tracking cards from the meetings with my weigh-ins recorded on them to back it up. My insurance is MVP.

I had to do the 6 month deal and in fact I am in month 5. DH and I were just talking tonight about how fast it has gone! I have been doing a combo of south beach , 3 meals a day and around 1200 calories. My WLS Dr has us record everything we eat, drink and exercise. I just copy the chharts and give them to my PCP at the monthly check ins. I usually type up a monthly recap summery of my adventures and give to her. I figure the more data the better!
I will tell you though that I had a hard time sticking to it in the begining and even become depressed as I felt like i had to admit that I had failed at natural ways. I realize now that I didnt fail. I just didnt havent the tool I need yet.
Good luck and just spend time hear learning all you can. The time will fly by!

You know what i was wondering too? In 2007 I became pregnant and had to go on a NO/low carb diet because I was gestational diabetic, would that count as a medically supervised diet? I saw the perinatologist all 9 months so I am sure that is in the records since I got weighed every 2 weeks. Can anyone shed any light on whether this would work for submission for my insurance company? By the way, I did not lose weight per se but I only gained 15lbs
