It will be an ironic twist if I'm told I don't weight enough! At 216 I think I weight plenty!! To prepare myself I went to my insurance site and printed out the appeal letter, just to be prepared. Anyone ever had to appeal and won?

If you get your doctor to appeal it for you, you will stand a better chance of winning your appeal because they can take it one step higher than the average person can get and also use your medical history to support the need for surgery.

I got a strange call from my pcp this afternoon. She called to say the insurance co had called her and gave her the name of surgeons for me to contact. I called the insruance co and they didn't have it in the computer that I had been approved or turned down but they had received the letter from my pcp asking for pre approval. Strange. The insurance co said to call back tomorrow, maybe there would be an answer then.

Well you know they got it then. The list of Drs im sure are the ones in your network they prefer you to see so you can get it paid at the highest benefit. Sounds like its a good thing to me. I agree with Poppa Tap let the Dr appeal it. He has better medical language for this sort of thing. Good Luck!

I don't know how your insurance works, but I let the actually surgical team's office do all the paperwork for the insurance company. I felt that they had much more experience with each insurance company and knew what it would take to get approved. If you can and need to, I would suggest you have a bariatric surgeon's office do the appeal. (one from the list they are providing) They have usually been through it all and know just what to do. But, hopefully you don't even have to worry about an appeal.

I won't lie...I placed two 4 pound hand weights in my bra last time I was weighed and wore a LG sweatshirt so no one could tell cause no way in hell am I letting 8 lbs stop me from getting this life changing surgery I've been wanting for yrs. Insurance companies screw you so I'm going to screw them right back!!

I was only at 38, but I had high blood pressure and sleep apnea. Also I think my dr. fudged on my height so I came out at 39.

I was required to go through a six month waiting period of dieting, etc., so I was actually at about 35 when surgery rolled around.

The insurance company approved me in less than 5 days.
