Default Cash?

I was just wondering if anybody paid cash for their procedure and if you did how much did it cost? Thought it'd be interesting to see. Also, did you make monthly payments or did you have to finance through a credit card company.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I have insurence but I think I read some where that it was some where around $30,000? I could be wrong, but that seems to stick out in my mind. I have read that if you go to mexico is much cheeper and there were other countries as well but I forget which ones.
I hope this helps

I think Peanut told me that mine was something like $37,000 and hers was around $60,000, but she had some other problems they found when they were in there and it made the surgery significantly longer and more difficult. With her new knee and elbow and my shoulder surgeries, we've gotten our money out of BCBS the last few years, that's for darned sure!!

There are a few. TrulyKath was self pay.
There also are a few who had it done outside US because they were self pay and the cost in the US was too steep. However, if you choose to have it done abroad, make it very very sure that beforehand that you will have a supporting medical network in the US close to you that you can go to post op, because if you develop complications, having had surgery out of country can become an issue in who will/can see and treat you in an emergency. Bear in mind, basically, no US surgeon will accept you as a patient and follow you post op if you had surgery outside the US.

I know you asked about COBRA insurance before. Honey that will be much cheaper than paying for it cash. Now..alot of times Drs will charge a self pay patient less than someone with insurance. That would be up to you to discuss with your Dr and get a quote. Now remember that does not count the cost of the hosptial stay, the medications, the Operating room, the Anesthelogist, the lab and any other fees. They all bill seperate. You can call them also and ask what they charge. They will contact you back in a few days about it and dont pass out from the cost. Alot of times they will want atleast a portion of this upfront. I know the Dr will want most if not all of his.

The reason they dont bill as much to you is because after it goes though the insurance company they only pay a certian amount to them. They are under contract with them for that price. The surgeon may charge you the entire amount.

Becareful with this route. I like Doc would be really cautious about going abroad to have this done. You will need attending here. Your family Dr will more than likely be unable to help you with post op visits for a while.

Now this is all considering if you dont have any complications. My total bill from just the hosptial it self was........ $157,000.00 No that is not a typo. My surgery was far less than that. Im saying it was about $7,000.00 there about. I had a complication. So if you still eligible for COBRA look into it. There is a new federal law that has to do with COBRA and the cost of it. Its much less than before.

I wish you well on your journey in what ever you decide. I know you want to have this done and it would greatly improve your life. So do some serious thinking.

wasnt there someone else who did cash pay? shannon? i cant remember...i believe they paid A LOT LESS than what my insurance was billed. my insurance payments total was close to 80k when it was all said and done. there is a thread floating around here where we all put what ins or whether or not we paid for it. its old. like maybe from 2 yrs ago. seems so far away lol.

i would assume the state you are in and which dr you choose will play a roll in the cost but from what i have experienced by not having insurance at present, cash pay for anything medical is ALWAYS cheaper (excluding prescriptions).

there are actually medical finance companies out there. not sure how they work with the payment schedules. google "medical finance company" and see what comes up. this is also how some ppl pay for plastics.

I had the lap band in 2002. I had it done in Mexico and for the entire procedure plus the two day over night stay in Mexico it was $6000.00.

The cash price at Tampa General Hospital in 2007 was 23000 for rny for everything. I was in CCU for a couple of days, don't know why, no one ever told me, but my bill was right at 78000 ~ thankfully I did have ins, I don't know how that goes if you pay their "self pay" rate and you need additional services????
