| Lifestyle Program
Right now I am in the 2nd month of the lifestyle program before surgery, have had 2 meetings. After my 3rd, I schedule an appointment with the surgeon. The place where I am going said that I have to go 6 months (6 meetings) so insurance will pay for the surgery but I have read that the doctor can "give you credit" for some of the time. Is this true?

I am not sure about your insurance but I had to do the 6 mt diet and have doctor documentation for it.

Your doc is the one who's going to submit documentation to satisfy the insurance company. Follow his counsel and you'll do fine. He and his staff have done this a few times more than you have, so trust them!

Not sure about this one since I didn't have to do it..
Follow the directions of your surgeons office, they know very well the process & how they will get paid.
Good luck.

If you have medical records of previous weight loss efforts, that may count, but if your surgeon/center has a comprehensive program for the whole process and post op follow up, then it's best to follow through with their program.

As tough as it may seem try to follow the program. Sometimes these programs are set up not only to get insurance approval but to test the patient's committment to following the prescribed program Keep your chin up!

Okay so i have a question if they put you on the plan to follow and it takes 6 months and you get your surgery date but its after your birthday will the insurance still pay or will i have to get my own insurance? I am 17 so if from this month it takes 6 then it will be after my 18th birthday. : /

Baby, I would call and ask your insurance company exactly that. If they say yes...I would consider getting a different MD. That may mean you have to travel further.
Another option is to discuss with your current MD, he/she may be willing to submit early if they think they can be successful. Explore your options from all different perspectives; but do not wait till you turn 18...control this situation.
Best advice anyone ever gave me for life skills was to "always have a Plan B". The world is yours and all you have to do is go get it!
Best of luck......I am cheering for you girlfriend...ah to be 18 again...

Through my insurance, I had to have 4 appointments with each: Primary Care Physician, Dietician and Exercise Therapist. The appointments had to be 30 days between each appointment. I started in october and had my surgery in March, so about 5 months. We just got the surgery statement from the insurance comapny and all we have to pay is $622.00 out of $32K woohooo!!!!!

It's better not to skip steps along the way. They are all there for a reason to ensure you will be successful postop AND beyond.
