Default Tests Before Surgery

I'm going to be starting the tests the doc puts you through before he'll do surgery. Does anyone know if there are certain things they might find that they will absolutely not do the surgery? I'm sure there are very severe things that they won't continue but I'm talking like gallstones or ulcers (things that can be fixed with medicine and other surgery). Is there anyone out there that they found something in the tests? And how did this affect you're waiting time for the surgery? I am just so nervous they will find something I had no idea I had and I'd like to hear other's experiences.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

If you have ulcers that will delay the surgery until they are all healed up. Gallstone they will just take out the gallbladder at the same time as the bypass. I would think that some heart conditions could keep you from getting the surgery but I don't know.

I had/have what was described as a nasty ulcer. They put me on prilosec for 2 months but I still had my serg 2 weeks latter. It might depend on what part of the stomach the ulcer is in.

I had/have a heart valve condition but, it only helped in getting me approval faster. I have heard some blood conditions can delay the surgery.

Try not to worry about it and just focus on the process and all will go well. t is a very anxious time and seems to drag on forever. Take this time to educate yourslf and read, read, read!

Best of luck too u!

Mostly, you may get a delay. It's very rare that surgery is put off, unless you have something going on that is well, too far gone. But then, if you did, then you'd know that, because, more likely than not, you will be being treated very thoroughly for such conditions.
The exams are to make the surgery safer for you, so no need to be scared. (((((HUGS)))))

Don't get pregnant! A friend of mine lost 52 lbs prior to her sugery and went in and when they did the blood work before the surgery they found she was pregnant. Weight loss makes you fertile LOL!! She's due in May and when this child goes to Kindergarten her youngest will already be a junior in high school and her other will be in college!! YIKES!! I'd just die! LOL

I just had an all day marathon of labs, psych, nut, md, etc. They passed me as a candidate but will NOT do a bypass as I have a bleeding disorder called ITP (I already know that). He said that if I had a bleed he would have to open me up with a bypass, but could scope the band or sleeve. My insurance company approved the sleeve last week so I will opt for that. I also have IBS-D, another reason the sleeve will work better for me. He said even if it wasn't approved he would have appealed to the insurance company.

Thanks everyone.

I have a history of ulcers but haven't had them in years. Maybe I'll pick up some Prilosec OTC and start taking just incase. That's really the only thing that worries me.

I found out I had a blockage in one of my arteries from the vigorous testing that I went through. What it meant for me was 3 stents and a delay of three months. I was very down at the time, but now my surgery which is scheduled for October 27th is just around the corner. So, best of luck to you, and try not to worry!
