Default Is the BMI Calculator part of the qualification?

I was looking into bariatric surgery, and according to this San Antonio Weight Loss Surgery website, your BMI (or Body Mass Index), has to be 30 or above to indicate "Obese". I've heard one of the stipulations in order for insurance to cover it is that you have to be morbidly obese.

Is this correct?

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.

NIH has issued the basic criteria for weight loss surgery, and the insurance companies base part of their criteria for approval of surgery on this.
Please read the following thread.

My doctors office and insurance required a bmi of 40. If under 40 you had to have 2/3 co-morbidities to qualify. Alot depends on what your insurance requires. good luck.

My insurance co required a BMI over 40, or >35 with "co-morbidities"...I had high blood pressure and rising blood sugars and high cholesterol.
