Default The Pre-op Diet

Ok I went to the meeting yesterday with the dietician, it was informative. She showed what serving sizes are really like and put everyone on a 1200 calorie diet. Mine had to be modified so I had to stay after everyone else left. My PCP has me on a Gluten free diet because of IBS, which has not bothered me since I switched to eating this way. First we all had to weigh in, I was early since I had to drive quite a way and I did not want to be late. I lost 2 lbs I was happy, since I have no added exercise in yet, also because I have bad knees, Achilles tendonitis, and a bad shoulder. The shoulder and and the knees have been operated on before. So I will have to take it slowly. Anyway back to the diet, the dietician told me I was not eating enough, but that I could stick to my gluten free diet. She gave me more servings of fruits, veggies, and dairy, and also told me to try to find somewhere to buy some gluten free bagels (the small ones) or bread. We were all given a diary to fill in each day of what we eat and when and what type of exercise we are getting. I also have an appointment with my PCP for Monday to cover myself, and figured I could also get the 5 year of chart records with weights etc. on them. So for me that is 2002-2007, I sure hope when I get done with this the insurance appoves me. Well thats it for now I need to get going, I am also going to get a pedometer so I can show them I have been exercising when I go.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Good to hear you are in good hands. Your dietician sure sounds capable, and knows the stuff very well.
Good luck with your PCP appt, too.

Cherri,
I know you said you have a problem with your knees and shoulder, but have you looked into Curves? I was really not interested in looking at it until my mom asked me to go with her. I went and have been going for two weeks now. I love it. It is not weight bearing and is a lot of fun. The people at the one I am going to are very nice and no one is skinny. It makes you feel good for what you are doing.

Thanks, I am using the Tony Little Gazelle until we get our pool installed, its not so hard on my joints, and I can do it without using my arms if I want to. Also I have fibromyalga brought on by my Sleep Apnea, so a lot of times I just feel tired or so sore. I just push myself to do it so I know no matter what unless I am very sick I will still do my exercising. I am hoping I will be able to do more once I lose some weight and it makes things easier on my joints.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. I do argee with the Curves thing. It is really a great program. The only thing I ran into was when I started I was down to 260 but then stopped going and stopped eating right and gain up to 350. At my size now I have a hard time getting on and off of the machines. I am not going at this time but plan to return once I have my surgery and get the ok to go.

You know you and I are the around the same size, and I do have a little trouble getting on and off some of the machines, but I do it. Only one machine I don't even try. I got stuck in it the first time I tried it and ever since will not get in it. Maybe after the surgery. The people who go to mine and run mine have been very supportive and are very excited to see me before and after the surgery. I would get started back now if you have the energy. I thought is if I get a little tone now, then maybe I won't have to have as much re-constructive surgery after????? Also I am hoping it helps me get my sugars down so I don't have to put off my surgery due to high blood sugar. Now all I have to do is get walking. I hate to walk!

Oh you and me both. Walking makes me want to cry. LOL I have found no form of exercise that I do enjoy except dancing and I am just to big right now. I get out of breath to easy. My doctor requires his patients to walk 30 minutes each day before and after the surgery. I don't like it but I know it is for my own good.

As for curves it is good but then again it was a love/hate thing. I hated to go, loved it when it was over. LOL Just don't like doing it, guess that is why I weigh 356 lbs. Makes since to me! I am going to start going back asap but probably not until my surgery is over. Anna when is your surgery or have you had it already? I am still trying to keep up with who is who.
