Default Whom ever put "Sleep" in Sleep Study is crazy!

Today I had my consultation for my sleep study coming up on Thursday. They asked all the necessary questions, got my weight, and had me watch a video. After that they took me on a tour of the facility, and the differernt bedrooms. They looked like rooms from Motel 8 (which isn't bad) but it was freezing! And had 4 different cameras in different angles. Kinda makes me worried because truthfully who sleeps pretty? What frightens me are the sensors and monitors they hook you up to. I'm a very light sleeper & wake up at the teeniest sounds, so someone coming in the room every so often is going to wake me up. They encouraged me to bring books and snacks that would make me comfortable, heck they even have cable tv! I afraid I'm not going to sleep a wink & therefore not get any results, because there is no way I'm going to konk out. The 7 days I was in the hospital I couldn't sleep unless I was dopped up with morphine, too many scary movies under my belt.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

LOL well honey the inital one is to see how much sleep you acutally get and if you go into deep sleep as they call it. I used to set them up. I have had a total of three per say. One to dx it. The second one to tritate me. Meaning to put me on a mask at a certian pressure after they found out I did in fact have apena and then they come in and would set the pressure up as i needed it. It was the best nights sleep I had in years. The last one was after surgery to prove to them I didnt need it any longer. I didnt wake up once and was totally clear.

Those cameras watch you sleep honey. Unless they are doing a split night study on you there should be no need for a tech to come in and check on you. Good luck with this honey the thing about this is it dont hurt. And the beds are acutally comfortable. They do make sure of that.

LOL...yeah, it's a tough night for sure. I did mine a few years ago and was miserable. Ask your doc for a prescription for Ambien or something before you go and that may help. Just wait til they hook you up to all those wires and everything!!

Both times I've been in they didn't give me time to read, watch TV, etc. Once they got me hooked up it was lights out! And once I was asleep I only woke once with a bad leg cramp. You'll do fine.

Both times (diagnosis and treatment) they had me report at 9:00 PM. It takes a while for them to wire you for surround sound and get everything set up, but then I got in bed and forgot about the surroundings and that thick bundle of cables running down my pants leg.

First time, I gave them great data. They recorded 90 apneas an hour - I was waking myself up on average every 40 seconds! No wonder I was always tired!! Second time, same routine but with a mask. They had the CPAP set up so they could adjust the pressure automatically without entering the room. A couple of days later they gave me a CPAP of my very own, and I used it every night but one for the next five years and slept great!! (That one was a bad night in July trying to sleep in my car in the parking deck at the Mayo Clinic while workmen ran a new overhead plumbing system and Peanut was inside recovering from a long operation. Ain't nothing would have helped that night!!)

If you have apnea, you will be amazed at how well you will sleep once they start treating it. Peanut didn't think she had it, but her test was positive and for a few months we both used CPAPs, then my face shrunk enough that the mask wouldn't fit and I didn't need it any more anyway.

Yup, ask for drugs and you won't care.
I am a veteran of studies, have had several and good drugs help a lot.

You may not feel like but you'll get some sleep.. I had to go to the bathroom 6 times and they had to remove all the wires.. I felt like terrible about that. I guess it was nerves..they made me put a CPAP machine on in the middle of the night.. I wish you the best. Sandy

Maybe my team had done it more than yours, but they had one master disconnect that unplugged all the wires. When I had to go to the bathroom, they came in, pulled that plug and handed me the loose end, and that was that. Easy as can be.

Different places do it different ways, based on their own reasons. Whatever we tell you may have no resemblance to what you encounter, but the main things apply. It doesn't hurt. You can get to sleep with the rig on. You'll forget about the cameras. Your hair will be a complete and total mess!!

Good luck!!
