Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Check your local hospitals with center of excellance rating in baratric surgery and they can give you an exact figure. Let us know what you find out. Good luck. If you are on disability your medicare insurance company can help or if you have insurance from work your bmi might be acceptable or if you have illness like hypertension or diabetes or sleep apnea that may be all it takes. Give a little bit more information. And welcome to the site.

I live in AZ. But my ins is out of VA. I have PCP/Specialist on my plan. Someone was talking about you have to have PCP. Our ins is PPO, but our PCP/ Specialist is our co-pay for a reg doc or a specialist. I need to do some investigating cause I was told by them I was qualified once before then after I went to the seminar they called me and told me they wouldn't cover the wls. Mind you I have a BMI of 39.0, high chorister, DDD (degenerative disk disease), bad thyroid, and now pre diabetic. So something is fishy to me with my ins. Then they told me that my husbands company didn't have that in their plan and he has the best anthem offers.

I have been diagnosed with bad thyroid, high cholesterol, DDD (degenerative disk disease), and now pre diabetic. My BMI is 39.0. I was told once I qualified, then after I went to a seminar and my papers were submitted I got a call saying my ins didn't cover the wls. I don't know what else to do besides save up the money to have it done. I am 5'3" and weigh 220 I was 236, but I am on Phentermine 37.5 MG that one of my doc put me on, but its to the point now it's not hardly working. I can't do much exercising because od my DDD (back). I am between a rock and a hard spot.

I live in Northern WI. The total for my RNY - surgeon, hospital & anesthesia was $42,000. This did include post-op visit at 6 weeks and 3 mths but not ANY of the diatery visits or any of the Pre-op but this did go towards my deductable. I didn't have any complications - had surgery Monday at noon and I was leaving hosp at noon on Wed. My insurance paid all but $1500 which was my deductable. Expensive but well worth it!

With a BMI of 39 you probably have to have additional conditions such as hypertension, diabeties & osteoarthritis. If your BMI was 40 or over you wouldn't need to have the other conditions.

My initial bill came in at $72,000. I think...
The agreed amount by the insurance company was $15,000. The hospital accepted it as payment in full.
I think you should ask in advance what is the "out of pocket" cost for a cash paying patient. I have heard some insurances don't pay. But I have also heard if you
are persistent and have your doc support you and send in paperwork, insurance companies will sometimes pay. FIGHT FOR IT.

Also check with your clinic & hospital, they may have programs that can help cover the cost of things that insurance won't pay for. Another thing to do is read your insurance benefits book..front to back and look for the covered benefits and also the not covered services. Insurance companies DO make mistakes!!! Good luck and like Pretty Woman said..Keep fighting!!!
