Default how long did it take u to get your surgery?

How long once you had your consultation did it take you to get your surgery? i know every insurance company and dr is different. i was just curious of what others have been through. If they were to ask me if I knew for 100 percent this is what i wanted i'd have to lie and say no i'm not 100 percent. i am a little afraid because of the negative attention but i am so exhausted and now believe to have diabetes. i feel like i am on the road to death and need to do something for myself and my family. The place i emailed left a messege on my machine. i have to call them tomrrow and set up an appointment but i'm nervous and always feel dumb asking questions and with untreated diabetes i cant focus and feel odd most of the time. well thought i would post. had something else on my mind too but i forgot what it was.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

well, make a list and dont feel stupid. its your body and your life and you really need answers in order to make an informed decision. I had my inital consultation the 3 rd week in march. I dont remember the date.i did all of my pre-op tests within two weeks or so and had my surgery on 4/19. i dont think my process was the standard though. there are many on here who wait months even years im sure. you should call your insurance company directly to get an idea of the time frame. hope that helps.

MY PROCESS WAS REAL QUICK FROM THE DAY I HAD MY CONSULTATION WITH THE SURGEON. THE WHOLE PROCESS TOOK ABOUT 5 WEEKS FROM THE DAY OF MY CONSULTATION TO MY SURGERY DAY THIS MONDAY. HERE IS A TRICK MY SURGEON TAUGHT ME. IF YOU WANT THIS QUICK, LIE TO ALL THE DOCTORS YOU HAVE TO SEE FOR APPROVAL. TELL THEM YOUR SURGERY DATE IS LIKE IN 2-3 WKS (give them a specific date) AND THEY WILL DEF GET YOU IN SOONER FOR TESTS, ETC OTHERWISE THEY WILL MAKE YOUR DATE FOR WEEKS AWAY AND WONT RUSH TESTS OR PAPER WORK FOR YOU AND IF THEY CANT ACCOMODATE YOU THEN FIND AN OTHER SPECIALIST THAT WILL ACCOMODATE YOU.

I SAW MY PCP YESTERDAY FOR THE FINAL CLEARANCE FOR MY UPCOMING SURGERY ON MONDAY AND HE ACTUALLY TOLD ME HE CANT BELIEVE I HAVE MY SURGERY ON MONDAY, HE SAID, WERENT YOU HERE JUST ABOUT A MONTH AGO WHERE WE WERE JUST TALKING ABOUT THE IDEA OF HAVING THE SURGERY. I SAID TO HIM, YEAH BUT IM SOOO DETERMINED. PLUS I TOLD HIM THE TRICK I LEARNED ABOUT LIEING WITH FAKE SURGERY DATES TO MAKE THE PROCESS FASTER.

THE OTHER THING IS ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE DIFFERENT SOME TAKE WEEKS TO APPROVE YOU. MY INSURANCE COMPANY (EMPIRE BC/BS) APPROVED ME IN LESS THAN 24 HRS

GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US POSTED

My doctor has a great staff. The medical billing dept. does everything they can to help you. I had my first appt in June. My surgery is scheduled for Sept 11. My family thinks I'm rushing it, but I've been thinking about this for years.

fairy, if think you have diabetes, get it diagnosed and get it under control. Many surgeons won't give you a date until your diabetes is under control, because high blood sugar and high A1C is an indicator of a higher rate of complications and infections post op. A couple of the people on board here got their surgery postponed to a later date because of it. So, whether you make your final decision or not, it's best to have your diabetes, and whatever comorbidities you have, under control, because the surgeons will require that your physical condition be at the best it can be, whatever you have. The better your comorbidities are under control, the less the risk, and the better your chances will be, during and after surgery.

((((((HUGS)))))) May your journey go well.

IT also varies...
depending on the patients age and health issues how many pre op clearances you might need.
I know for me my journey went a tad longer as my large size caused
them to think i had heart blockages at the cardiologist and i was sent
out for an angiogram.......(results were normal but better safe then sorry on the OR table)

FOR me it was really how fast i got all my appointments in which was tricky at the time cause i was working full time running my own business...
but for me i took my first information seminar end feb. and wound up with a june 1 surgery. (mind you had to revise my surgicial date 2 weeks due to no one able to help with the kids).....
NOW keep in mind, some insurances are requireing six month supervised diets to people going thru the process so if thats a requirement of your
insurance that even more time added in.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!
and get that ball rollin

First consultation April 24th (still trying to get insurance to pay for that visit $1000)

Got my first denial, had my PCP write them a letter asking them to reconsider, and am still waiting to hear if I'm denied again or approved. If denied, I will have to start the appeal process, or find out what it is they need me to do to get approval (like a 6 months diet). So it could be as long as a year before you get the surgery - just all depends on your health and what your insurance company requires from you.

What makes you think you have diabetes and why aren't you seeing a doctor for it? Do you know anyone who can do a glucose test on you? Here in Virginia, our rescue squads can do it. If you are having blurred vision or other symptoms of high sugar go to the ER.

Honey the first thing I will suggest is for you to go to your family Dr and get checked. A physical persay. Simple blood test will let them know if you have Diabetes. You may also suggest for them to check your Thyroid. It might not be functioning right. Its easily treated however. That is the first thing you need to do. Then after you have information then you can make the right decision for you.

The wait varies so much. Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield looks like its the quicker one. I have noticed whats pretty much standard in here and its about 3 months. That way you have plenty of time to make up your mind once you have all the infomation you need. Good luck on all this. Do you mind telling us what type of insurance you have mabye that will give me a hint on how long possibly this could go on for.
