Default Newbie working on getting approval

I'm a newbie here. I am working on getting qualified for the surgery now. I have been to the seminars and I go for my first consult with the surgeon this Friday 07/27/07. I am wondering about my own qualifications though. I have Hyperinsulemia, Hyperlipidemia, (have been diagnosed as being pre-diabetic) occasional hypertension ( or elevated bp...each doc says something different about it). My depression has gotten worse and I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I have almost all the problems associated with PCOS with enlarged ovaries, with the cysts, I have the hirsitism all over my body but most severly on the face and chest. I do not menstrate but maybe three times a year. I am losing a lot of hair from the very top of my head. I have the dark skin colorations in my skin folds, on my neck, knees, thighs, ect. I am 5'8 and 310 lbs. I am told I snore and have times where I am not breathing properly or at all but I have not been diagnosed with Sleep Apnea. I am constantly tired. I can sleep 12 hours or more and still be tired when I wake up. I have issues with water retention, low back pain (sciatic nerve pain causing numbness in the legs). I'm tired of being sick and tired and I do want to have babies. At this rate, it is never going to happen. What do you think my chances are? Good or bad? I have two insurances, one is going to expire the end of August and so I am having to see two doctors, one that I chose and one at the Army Hospital in El Paso...at first they said I was going to have to wait 1.5 years to be seen and now I go to them on 08/07/07...on 08/02/07 I am going for my psych evalution...which is hillarious to me that that is even a requiremet. So...what do you think?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Let's see...
All I have to say about the hospital stay is it probably isn't a good idea to do it over a holiday. Lots of staff are out and it will take more time to get pain meds if you need them (and I did). My doctor was great but I had never had any kind of surgery before so my experience was not mild. My back hurt really bad which I am told was because of the anestizia (spelling???)

Eating is more like a chore mostly because I am tired of the protein shakes but I know they are necessary. I have cheated from my 2 week post op liquid diet, I had baby food pears and they were soo good! I also had some pumpkin pie filling (not too much though) and I was so scared I was going to dump but I didn't. The rest has been sugar-free, low-fat, low-cal puddings and custards, which have helped a lot. I had my post op appointment yesterday.

My incisions have almost completely healed with tiny scarring except for my belly button. No infection, no leaking, no weirdness. My energy is still low but I am told it is because I am not getting the needed amount of protein. I am also losing hair and I am also told this is because of low protein. I have a new found respect for water. I'm okay with the vitamins and the actigall but the Citrical with Magnesium, those pills are huge! So I cut them but it just makes them more jagged. I got the Citrical chews yesterday, in every flavor, and have a magnesium supplement for when I take those.

Major problems-none. Minor problems-drinking water too fast. I celebrated last night with my husband at Red Losters last night, I wanted shrimp and scalops. I did my best to not drink the 30 minutes before or the 30 minutes after. I had to a little bit during. I had 2 stuft mushrooms, 4 pieces of shrimp scampi and 1/4 of a colossal scallop and it was too much. Mind you, I was picking off his plate and didn't get one of my own. I had to let the contents of my pouchy go. I thought it was going to be a horrible experience but it wasn't quite as bad as it used to be at least prior to surgery. I felt immediately better and just sipped my decaf tea. I am not going to eat anything other than very soft foods for at least another 2 weeks. I don't know if it was because I ate too much or if it was too rich but it was good while it lasted.

Today is my first day back at work and I am being told they can see that I have lost weight already and I didn't tell them that I had this surgery. My doc gave me a 6 month membership is a local gym so I am looking forward to staying toned while losing.

Thanks Chilly! I'm glad the surgery is done and I made it through with little problems. Thank you for talking me through the weirdness.

Congratulations on joining the Loser's Bench.
Please don't forget, even if your incisions on the outside have healed, a lot of healing is still going on, and will be going on until 3-4 months after surgery.
(((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.
