Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | It's been a while since I was on this forum. I have a question -- I am almost then months out -- down about 80 pounds -- almost a size 12 -- very happy about that. But, I am still not eating much protein without getting sick. I got sick (dumped) on two shrimp and some greens last night. Carbs are the only thing that does not make me sick. Anyone have problems with protein at almost a year out? Help!!!!!!!!!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I still cant eat alot of protein either. I am 8 months out. Carbs. are thye easiest for me to tolerate also. I am not real good with my water intake either,it is a struggle some times. This site has alot of encouragement and support so I stay close and try to re-follow the rules of my doc. Take care. Kathy

| Super Moderator | I think you should talk to your surgeon about this first, then ask your nutritionist for some ideas. Is it protein in any form that you don't do well with, or with how they are prepared? If it's the prepartions, then you must experient with the cooking. Are you sure there's not too much salt and/or fat in the protein foods you take? They may be the true culprit instead of protein itself. Anway, please get in touch with your surgeon. ((((HUGS)))) Hang in there.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hi Kenyar -- thanks for replying. By, the way -- you look terrific. We have similar stats -- but you are much younger and thank goodness, don't have diabetes. You've lost much more than me. My surgeon wrote me off as soon as he did the surgery. I went back to the bariatric office for five month following surgery with the same complaints and they told me to see a gastroenterologist, which I did. He could find nothing wrong. Said the pouch looks fine, and that maybe (though it's not detectable) I have an ulcer. The medication I take has helped some of the pain, but I continue to get sick and I am frequently hungry. I know I eat too many carbs, but I often don't have a choice. But, even with all my challenges, I am thrilled to be looking better than I have in my whole life. Thanks again for reponding. Lorraine

Personally, I think the surgeons should follow their patients untill they are at least two years ouf, and hit goal. Do you do just as badly with protein shakes and protein puddings and things like that?

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | The shrimp were steamed and the greens were plain. Ironically, all the things that I wish made me sick are fine -- carbs, sugar, fat. I can literally eat junk all day if I let myself -- which I don't. Lean protein, salad, eggs -- all make me sick sometimes. Beef seems to be Ok most of the time in small quantities. So is cheese. Thanks, Lorraine

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I have had trouble with solid proteins like meat. It has been getting better lately, but only in small amounts (1 oz at a time). I have not been able to keep an egg down yet. I do best with things like cottage cheese or low fat cheese, beans or nuts. I would think by a year it should be much easier to eat meat. I'm sorry that you are having trouble finding a doctor who will get to the bottom of this. It must be so frustrating for you. Maybe you could get another opinion from a different doctor and find one that is willing to look a little deeper. |
