| Pictures from Thanksgiving
Here are a couple of pictures of us gathered around the table ready to chow down. As you can see, we have a few more guests this year than last. They are all my students, except for the girl, who is an "old friend" of the guy taking the picture. They both grew up in Nepal, and first met at their high school in the south of India. Now he has his master's (and works about a mile from his ol' perfesser's place in town here) and she has just finished hers from a private college in Iowa, not too far from here. In the 2007 picture, he's at my right. The guy at my right this year took the picture last year. He just graduated yesterday with his master's and is headed to Massachusetts for his PhD. He got his bachelor's degree in Cairo, Egypt. The bearded guy to Peanut's right is from the north of India. He is a Sikh. Everyone else is from Nepal. So we had quite a diverse crew this year. (Had to put the leaf in the table, but that's what they're for, eh?)
You may notice that the host (standing) looks different this year! (Not nearly as imposing this year!!)

Wow is there ever a difference. You do not even look like the one standing there this year compared to the one in the picture of last year. I also agree that it is so nice to open your home to people of a diferent culture than you and to experience Thanksgiving the way you do. Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.

Looks to me that you had a blessed Thanksgiving! How wonderful that you and Peanut opened your home to share with others. And I can't get over how much younger you look since taking off all the weight!!

Curious | The guy sitting at my right this year was born in Kuwait, but because of your laws, he's not considered a Kuwaiti. His family is from Egypt, so he's technically Egyptian. Sorry, it's the closest I could get!! He did well on the exams in my class several years ago, and was my grader last year. I shall miss him, but I'm thrilled for his prospects at his next school.
Everyone else is from south Asia. Peanut is the only person there who was born in the US. (I'm from a little farther north originally, and am now a dual citizen.)
I was thinking of the 2007 picture when I posed this one, Kath. I wanted to see the difference for myself. Should have worn a lighter shirt, though. I sorta blend into the woodwork now.
BTW - In next year's photo, there'll be a skinnier woman at the other end of the table, too!
