Today is the end of Peanut’s first year post-op, so we went out to our favorite Mexican place to celebrate her surgiversary. She told me that she never expected to lose as much as she has. A year ago she was just hoping that it’d work for her and that she could do what it took to make it work. (Sound familiar, newbies?

)
She has lost 90 pounds and is still sliding slowly down the scale at maybe 1 – 1.5 pounds a week. From 235 when she started the dreaded liquid pre-op protein diet (that she did for two weeks -
twice!!), she was 144 this morning. Of course, she spent about three months in a stall until just a few weeks ago, too, but she handled it well because she was feeling her clothes get looser and looser …
She told me that she feels like a whole new person! She is
happy now!! Before, she hated how she looked and how it felt to be fat. (Can you see it in her picture?) She had resigned herself to her fate and basically given up until I came up with this hare-brained scheme of having my guts sliced, spliced and tied in knots. She was against it when I first presented it to her, but I didn’t
ask permission. I
told her I was doing it!
She still had problems with it until she met my surgeon, and he convinced her that it would be okay for me. Fifteen months after I had mine, she had the same surgeon do her RNY. She just hoped that she wasn’t going to be the one it wouldn’t work for. Well, I’d say it’s worked pretty darned nicely!! She
smiles more. She
laughs more. She is a more pleasant person to live with. (Of course,
I’m a much nicer person now, too!!

)
She is proud of herself and her accomplishment, and now thinks in larger terms about what is possible for her. She’s a lot more fun now.
She told me that she is starting to feel skinny, too! Not always, but when she puts on her “doll clothes” she feels much smaller. She’s starting to see it, too, sometimes, but the old habits die so hard …
Anyway, that’s her first annual report card. It’s been a wild ride and fantastic year!! Would she do it again?
In a heartbeat!!!
I'm awfully proud of this little lady!!! I think I'll keep her!!
