 |  A new life
As a child I never remember being thin. I was constantly made fun of throughout all my years in school. I remember being 8 years old and 110 lbs. As a teenager my weight began to slowly creep up on me and by the time I graduated high school I was a very chubby 175 at 5 feet 3 inches tall. I married at 18 a wonderful and supportive husband unfortunatly he was diagnosed with luekemia just 2 days after our wedding. I turned to food for solace. He died when I was 23. I found myself submerging my pain in food. ALL KINDS OF FATTY, DECADENT, GREASY FOODS. By the time I turned 25 I was already 242 lbs. I went on a physician assisted diet program and lost 50 lbs, only to gain them back double within a year of leaving the program.
Last year with my health starting to get out of control and my second marriage on the rocks because of my obesity, I had a turning point in my life. My new husband suggested I inquire about gastric bypass, he bluntley told me that he cared for me but that he had never been with a woman over 135 lbs and that my weight made him not even want to look at me.
After much heart ache and the threat of divorce if I gained 10 more lbs, I went to a gastric bypass seminar. I hopped on the scale and cried 278 lbs!
1 month later I was on the table 09/02/09. I had many complications from the surgery and the first months alone I lost 50 lbs. I stopped eating and drinking completely and was told I developed ulcers along the staple line.
I spent 2 months in the hospital and was finally discharged with a feeding tube. The vomiting was daily 2 or 3 times day.
Was it worth it. Well?? It was a long painful journey,I still have to take a daily breakfast of antacids BUT I can say that 10 months later I am now at 127lbs, AMAZING.
I still have days when I wish I had not done it, but when I pull out my old size 26 jeans and bought my first pair of size 6 jeans I cried!
So yes it was worth it.. and now I realize that more than anything it was worth it for me.
Ladies, dont give up. Somedays you will want to stay hidden under the covers but just get up go to the gym and by the end of the day you will feel so proud of yourself.

Thank you so much. I delayed posting for a long time, because when I look in the mirror I still see me at my highest weight. On the advice of a friend I decided to go ahead and put up my story. You made my night , THANKS!!!

thank you posting your story, I have not as of yet had my surgery. I know that thinks might go bad, but I know what will happen to me if I don't have the surgery too.

It os still very hard for me not to see the before 'me' in the mirrior and I am out 21 months. Our minds play funny tricks on us. I still keep out pictures of me before to remind me how far I have come.
