Default I'm the tortoise not the hare.

This is really not in any way a complaint but I have been wanting to ask if anyone else has found that their pace of weight loss was slow. I continually read on here the number of people that have had surgery around the same time as me and they have lost over 100 pounds by now. Many of those that have had surgery much later than I did have passed me by also. I don't understand because I don't really cheat and have never overeaten or been sick. When I read the "what have you ate today" thread many time I am right with these people or even a bit more restrictive. I am going to post on that thread to try to hold myself a bit more accountable. I keep a daily food log already. I am Ok with my progress because it is "progress" and a number on a scale has not defined who I am or how valuable I am in this world for a long time. I really am content but I guess am confused as to why I have to eat so very little food and exercise 3-4 times a week in order to lose a couple of pounds a week. The thing I was most worried about in having surgery was having some sort of "lack of absorbtion issue". I guess I should be thankful my prayers were answered, because I seem to absorb every ounce of food I take in to my body. My labs are good, I feel great and am wearing a size 16 for the first time in over 30 yrs. I am truely humbled and grateful that I have been given this opportunity to change my health because I know so many people out there will never be afforded the same gift. I guess I am afraid if I have to work this hard the first 6 months; then what if it slows down completely. Is that possible? Could it me my thyroid issue? or the menapause issue? That I am 50 yrs. old? (although my reasearch does not really support those as effecting the outcome of WLS that much) I don't really post a lot but thought I would see if I could see if there is anyone else who could give me some incouragement in this area. Sorry for the long post. God Bless you all on this journey.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I'm a pretty slow loser too, when I went for my last check up the NP was hoping I had lost more...I did have an almost 3 month set back due to some knee trouble so I was doing PT for that and wasn't really able to exercise like I do now. I've got thyroid issues too and my PCP gives me a little bit higher dose of synthroid to help with my energy levels and weight loss. I'm 53 and I really do think age plays a part in the way we lose weight, I can remember my mother saying when I was in my 20's "you better get that weight off now because when you get older it will be harder" BOY WAS SHE RIGHT!! LOL
Anyway looking at your stats I think you have done great!! So just keep up the good work you are doing really well!!

Some track their weight loss from the highest weight or as in my case from my pre-op weight. So it may appear that I have lost 116lbs since Dec. 2010, I have actually lost 98lbs since Dec. For me, I felt like my journey started the day I went to my first appointment with the surgery clinic. I did a 3 month "diet" as per my insurance company and lost 18lbs. Also my Dr. required a loss of at least 10 lbs before he would do my WLS. So each of us are different in the rate of loss and how we tracked it! Your doing fine and congrats on the loss so far, keep up the good work.

I always compare weight loss progress to others also, even though everyone says not to. I only lose 2 pounds a week also and think that is slow but look at us.....6 months later and we're over 70 pounds down. I can't complain about that at all! I just know this is working for me at this moment.
I post almost every day in the what are you eating sub forum. When I look at others food intake I know why I'm only losing 2 pounds a week. But, I'm within my portion allotment (1Cup) and get all my protein in every day so I'll continue doing what I'm doing.
Since I had my surgery and started eating regular food I've never been totally "full", I just stop eating after my 1 cup of food. I'm not full, but I'm not hungry either.
Try not to fret Just enjoy!

The *standard* rate of losing is the first half of your excess weight in the first 6 months, the next quarter in the next 6 months, and the last quarter between year 1 and year 2.
Also, the more excess weight you have, the faster you will lose.
So, all of you are on track.

Thanks for the perspective. I really needed that; because I know the only way I fail is to stop trying. Your advise is always right on point.
