My ramblings...
I think WLS surgery gives you normalcy - just that prior to surgery OUR normalcies were NOT NORMAL!!!!!!! By 18-24 months out I should be eating a meal similar to what the Canada Food Guide suggests - THAT will be NORMAL. And to tell the truth, the idea of little to no sugars is not a bad thing, nor is having a lot of processed foods - they contain WAY too much sodium etc anyhow! And the carbs thing, well, again - carbs turn to sugar in our bodies, so they should be in moderation. I think this is a lifestyle, a choice to eat healthier, and the WLS is the best tool ever to help me acheive my goal of healthy eating.

I have done extensive research, many surgeons/doctors have many different ideas. My advice that I tell people is that I think it is best to follow the course recommended by your specific care giver. Having said THAT... MY surgeon had me on the South Beach Diet for 6 months before surgery. Believe me when I tell you that eating is MUCH different after surgery no matter how "prepared" you try to be - so much so that it really can not be described. Something that tasted ok before surgey you may not like or be able to tolerate after... so don't buy lots in advance!!!!

As far as supplements pre AND post op - ASK YOUR DOCTOR! My doc has me taking multi vitamins 2x a day, calcium citrate 2x a day, minimum 60g protein supplement, I also take iron and monthly B12 shots as my bloodwork revealed I need these.

I am feeling great... played tennis with Louis today (well, batted the ball around, lol) and am wearing size 26W jean today - instead of my 32/34!!!! It is AWESOME!!

KISS (Keep It Simple Sista)!!!!!!

WOW!!! Down 60 pounds!!! Wearing size 26/28!! SO much more energy, stamina and NOT SWEATING PROFUSELY!!!! My sunglasses are too big for my face, and my 5x tees have become big baggy sleep shirts for me!!! My underwear is falling off and I am in a smaller bra band size! I am haivng a few issues with solids... have thrown up a number of times, but I am learning. Still most confident with soft solids or liquids - I have a lot of soup, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese... trouble getting in 3 protein supplements and all the water, but it is not terrible, so... I try each day to meet my goal. It is all good!!! I am not regretting it one little bit!
