Lots to do

Long weekend here.
Tomorrow-- Sept 23rd is Fall Equinox, which is a holiday here. Since it falls on Sunday this year, Monday is also a holiday, to make up for the holiday coinciding with Sunday.
I got stuck in traffic yesterday because some people are going out of town for the weekend, and in Tokyo, some people is a lot of people.
Today--Saturday-- I take tennis lessons, but the regular class is closeed and they are having a special two day intensive course instead. So, after browsing through the board in the morning, I set out to change my PC desk. The plastic slider on the old one had split, and the keyboard shelf was falling off. It took right past lunch time to almost the whole afternoon to take down the old one, and set up the new. Boy am I pooped.
Tomorrow I have to take a day trip to an historic city called Kamakura which is about an hour and a half by train from home. Kamakura is more than 800 years old, and I need to visit its largest shrine, which also is over 800 years old, on some family biz. This is going to take up most of my day.
On Monday, I need to make a visit to the car dealer, there is some stuff that needs to be taken care of, though the car itself is fine.
So, while I had hoped for a nice languid weekend just relaxin', it looks like I am going to be in and out of our home, running errands, while hubby is sitting back with a can of beer in his hand, and watching the last leg of the baseball season.

If my memory serves me, there is a large bronze Buddha about a 30 minute walk from the train station. Kotoku-in???? This was my first unaccompanied trip away from Yokohama when I was working there. I got on the train and counted exits to ensure I would not get lost. It was so beautiful and peaceful.Posted 03-19-2008 at 12:30 PM by thelesserman

Six months since the first post.
I was in Kamakura again yesterday. Raining heavily and sopping wet everywhere. Though I had a tent over my head, I was outside for an hour in the bad weather.
The cherry blossoms in the grounds of Tsurugaoka Hachiman Shrine was blooming already, though.
Yes, Kotoku-in's outdoor Buddha, popularly known as "Hase no Daibutsu-sama." You remember it well.
He's actually the largest bronze Buddha in the world without a roof. Over 12 meters--36ft--tall. The Buddha lost the temple building that housed him to a large tsunami in 13C, I think it was.Posted 03-21-2008 at 07:10 AM by DocSanae
