2 months POST-OP and Ill Very Ill

Posted 06-06-2009 at 09:55 PM by hopeful42

I am new here so please bare with me. I am 2 months out from RNY Gastric Bypass. I am down 75 lbs! That's the good part.

However I vomit all foods and some liquids for weeks now. 24 hour nausea, burning and pain in tummy and very weak and irritable.

The surgeon took me in for a EGD and found I have a ulcer and stricture with allot of inflammation. So being treated with ulcer meds and then in a couple weeks he hopefully can dilate pouch open. I feel so alone as I had my surgery in CA 2 months ago and then we moved to NC 3 weeks post op and can't find much support here. Thank God for the internet and this site and obesity .com. Has anyone else experienced this early out from surgery; is there hope I will recover completely? I am told if not sometimes they have to do a revision. UGHHH Blessings, Hopeful42

Strictures usually happen within the first 6 months, and the earlier out, the more likely.
Ulcers can happen any time, whether you're early out or not.
Both can be treated safely and with relative ease, so your pouch well be able to come back up to speed once the issues are taken care of. MsVickie had a HUGE ulcer that ate right up to her staple lines, but her latest scope showed that it is healing and she has managed to step away from the OR table.
Stick to your dr's instructions. Needless to say, don't do what your drs tell you not to, but also, make sure you do what you are told to do. What your drs haven't said yay or nay, ask them frist before testing your waters. The next few weeks will be hard on you because of the susupense you are in, but hang in there, and you should be able to do well.

Hang in there, it will get better! Some of us get different complications and some get none at all, but if you keep faith that things will get better and make that your mantra for now...the misery will subside and eventually a new you will emerge.

Yes honey hang in there. The ulcer meds will help if you take them like your supposed to. I acutally live very close to Mooresville Nc honey. Perhaps we can meet up one day and talk? Dont worry im not a stalker by no means. Its for support nothing else.

Yes i was told I might have to have a revision after they found mine. They placed me one 2 nexium a day. i have to take the med out of the pill however and now swallow the plastic casing. It really helped alot. When they went back to look again in 6 weeks he was amazed to see how it had healed up. It was bad very very bad. The worst he had ever seen stating his own words. So yes i have been there did that and glad im on the right track again. Do everything exactly the way they asked you to do it. I did and it worked for me and I am so in hopes it will for you to.
