Im a bit scared as im having gastric bypass on the 16 of May. I weigh 113 kilos ( 248 pounds). I havent told anyone yet but I will too soon as my 11 year old son will have to stay at my brothers while im in hospital. They will be fine with that as they love him to bits.what do i say when they (family and friends) start telling me im taking the easy way out, and wasting all this money etc... I think it is a positive step but im not sure how others will take it....Im going to tell them today ...

If this were indeed the "easy" way out, (whatever that means), why on earth would anyone begrudge you that and insist you take the hard way? They've no doubt seen your struggle. Do they think there is some virtue in making it harder than it has to be? I don't get it!

But it is not the easiest way to lose weight. It is a desperate last resort, a final cry for help before surrendering all hope. Anyone who would deny you this final chance because it doesn't match what they think of your problem isn't fully online. You are doing this for YOU, not them.

Stick to your guns, do what you have decided is right, and show them that you will win this battle! It may get pretty difficult at times. The mind has been trained to eat when, what and how much it wants, regardless of physical hunger. This means that it'll still want to do that after you no longer can. We call it "head hunger". Search the term on this list and learn as much as you can about it, because you will be encountering it, and if you aren't prepared for it, it can throw you off stride.

Good luck with the family and with your surgery. Let us know how things work out for you. You're one of this family now, too!
