The insurance mess continues

Posted 07-15-2009 at 10:55 PM by MsVickie

I made a call to my short term disablity insurance company yesterday to see if they had gotten the rest of my records they already had to begin with......... and what if anything else they needed to continue paying me my benefits I pay for every two weeks to pay me if im put out of work. The person anwsering the phone is always very nice different people with the company. I have never had any problems with them. I asked them to look to see if they needed anything else and the lady told me she wasnt sure. You see I waited 6 weeks for the first months money to come to me. I had to stay on the claims manager the whole entire time to get it done and approved. She told me back the First week of July that she would only approve me for one month of benefits. When asking why she told me just because I had insurance didnt mean they had to pay me to the date my Drs suggested as a return to work date as of right now. That would be left up to them when I should be able to return to work.

This is when I contacted my family Dr and told them what they stated and asked when they got the request for medical records in AGAIN that he write a letter stating to them why he felt that I was unable to work until that time. Its because I cannot get an appoitment with the UVA speciality clinic until Oct 1st. It would take at least 3 weeks to get any results back to my neurologist and then decided on which treatment to persue. THe seizures are still not controlled as of yet. Trust me.

When the lady who is the claims manager called me today she stated this to me.

Its being sent to the nurses right now. You will recieve a phone call tomorrow around 12:30pm and they will advise you at that time if your claim will be approved for continued benefits or not. Then she stated this again........ Just because your Dr states you cannot work doesnt mean we have to pay you. I killed her with kindness at this point. 2 weeks ago she had me in tears. I have slept since then and got myself back together mentally again to handle the rude lady.

What she didnt realize is that I contacted my neurologist and requested that they send all records medications notes and he write a letter to them also.

I also called my endiocrinologist and had them send copys of MRIs etc notes and a letter stating that I do have a gland tumor in my head.

Now I wait....... You see this is why we dont need managed health care. We have nurses and Drs who work for insurance companys over the computers..... yes computers............ and read files to determine if they do meet being out of work or even have a life saving scan xray test etc...... They have never laid a hand on the paitent. Never seen the paitent and in most cases have never practiced in a area such as neurology to try to understand seizures and how bad they can be and if they dont get control what can happen.

I know this from expericne. When I would call and try to get approval for certian surgerys it would have to go to what they call peer to peer review. I seen several times our physican come out and say you know that Dr they had detirmining if they could have this was a foot dr? I had to explain to him what it was I needed to do. He had no idea? When calling one time back when PET scans were new he had to tell them what a PET scan was and what he was looking for. The man was a plastic surgeon.

Yep these are the ones the insurance companys hire to detirme if you get to live for while longer or not. If you get chemo etc... and in my case if I get my little bit of disabilty money I have paid into a insurance policy to cover me just incase somthing was to happen to me.

Im sure people have to fight with Life insurance policys also and that is SAD!

Ok different subject. I went and had a cortizone shot put in the same knee I had the synvisc one shot put in about 6 weeks ago. The synvisc one is supposed to take just one shot every 6 months instead of 3 shots for 3 weeks for 6 months.

The thing killed me for a good while after that one shot. When I did get into a Ortho Dr he said he felt like they shot leaked out from the joint to cause me so much pain and he didnt personally like the synvisc one shot and didnt use it on his patients. So instead of having pain management doing my knee shots from now on Im goning to let the orhto Dr do it instead. He will use a differnt shot that is taken in three doses instead. I will keep the pain management Drs for arthritis medications because of the types of meds I have to have for them.

The family Drs used to could write these meds but not anymore because of the potential abuse from the meds. The pain management people keep a close eye on this and check your pills liquids and make sure your count is correct and your not over taking it. I have asked them to place me on liquid forms of meds now instead of pills and hopefully stuff I dont have to detox off of.

If you dont have arthritis be thankful. Be very thankful.

Hopefully tomorrow will be a good day with good news from the insurance company. If not I will appeal and its not gonna be nice. LOL. I pay for a service and it should be paid to me the way its stated in my policy to pay me.
