20 Days Left on the Countdown

Posted 10-28-2008 at 02:07 PM by Panther42080

I never thought at the start of the year that I would get to finally say that. With less than three weeks away, I keep getting my house and work ready for me to just focus on recovery. Sounds easier than it is, though. DH has been absolutely wonderful helping me move things and finish odd and end projects (I think he managed to shrink his honey-do list by a page last weekend alone!) It is some of the things I had not truly thought about that I am realizing I need to take care of.

I had my nutritional class and had not even thought about the fact that I cannot use BC pills anymore. (Effective immediately due to blod clot risks right after surgery, not that I stand a large change of getting preggo anyways - wanting children and not being able to conceive due to my weight was the final straw that brought me in for this) I realized that I had to get an appointment asap in order to get put on something else. I had shrugged off the depo shot before because I have heard the horror stories of people who have balooned on it (I didn't need any help in that department) but then I realized that I could have it now without having to worry about some crazy side effects on my weight. That, and I don't believe anymore that it was just the shot, but poor lifestyle choices. Since I have been working on changing my bad habits, I shouldn't worry about the shot. At least they can get me in next Wednesday and will have the shot ready for me. Another task completed.

I am still not getting the pre-surgery jitters yet. I know they will kick in, but I am hoping they stay at bay. I am already crazy enough lately since the powers that be at my company decided to restructure my entire department and I will be the only one staying out of our original bunch. That only happened because I was the only one in the physical location that they want to consolidate the team to. Now I have two new people training to replace those who are about to lose their jobs, with one or two more coming in while I am out recovering. Talk about insanity. I will also miss my counterparts. Heck, I was the "new kid" and now after only 2 years will be considered the "experienced" one. Hah! As if. Don't get me wrong - I am good at what I do, but there are some things that only experience brings.

Ok - enough for now. Have to go back to what they pay me to do here

    Congrats on your upcoming surgery.

Just a word of warning about BC. Keep in mind that hormonal methods of BC will not be effective during your rapid losing phase due to the female hormones that had been stored in your fatty tissue flooding your system while the fat melts away. You need to have a physical method to back up the depo shots or whatever your choice is.
You also need to keep in mind that you need to avoid pregnancy for 18-24 months post op, or until your surgeon gives you the go, until you've lost the weight you need to and are in maintenance to avoid complications during your pregnancy.

((((((HUGS))))))) May your journey go well.
