I recently used an inexpensive unflavored whey protein isolate protein supplement. It mixes well in foods, can be used in baking, etc. Cost is $25 per pound, making 77 servings of 25 grams. Details at:

I have personally used this item, and the flavor is virtually undetectable in SF puddings. It mixes easily, does not clump, and has no gritty texture or offensive odors. It has a very mild taste--similar to evaporated milk. But whey protein isolate is made from milk, hence that mild taste. DAVE
