8 Months after surgery and I still cannot eat solids!

I had my gastric bypass 8 months ago. I still cannot manage to eat any meat or fish, eggs, or any type of bread or rice! One mouthful of chicken or beef seems to cause horrible pain, followed with my head in the toilet about 4 times before it comes back up! I am basically living off milk, cheese, cereal, fruit, and some raw vegitables. Iv become so afraid to eat anything!
I was 310 lbs before the surgery, now 8 months later I am at 170 lbs and 5'9 tall! Its still coming off... My doctors seem like they don't want to take the time to help me with this. They just say keep up the good work with the weight loss... Is anyone going through the same sort of problem?

Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us.
Congratulations on your wonderful weight loss.
Bread and rice, quite often don't agree with bypass patients, so that's a pretty common thing.
Some people also have a hard time with protein foods, like you do, too. Have you checked the Recipe section and looked around? It may be how they are cooked that throws you off. In general it should get easier to eat as time goes along.
Another thing to consider is that you may have a stricture if you can't keep down foods of a certain consistency and above. A stricture that is not be bad enough and allows the softer foods to pass through, but the harder foods get stuck. This may be something to look into.
Be insistend with your surgeon that you be checked for every possibility.
((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.Posted 04-18-2008 at 01:03 AM by DocSanae

Congrats of the amazing weight loss. I'm only 8 weeks out and can't eat solid foods and some liquids without vomiting, 24 hour nausea and just totally exhausted. The surgeon took me in for a EGD and had to find a pediatric scope just to see what the problem was. I developed a huge ugly ulcer with stricture over new pouch. The inflammation too severe to dilate pouch open so treating ulcer and inflammation and try to do scope again in a few weeks. I'm living on water and gatorade. I have lost 75 lbs.
