Why is the weight not coming off as fast?

Posted 08-10-2010 at 10:03 AM by Tigrer76

Maybe I am being impatient but................when I went in to get my stitches removed I has lost 8 lbs. The other people had lost 15-20lbs. How is that possible? I have been eating only what I am suppose to, getting all of my protein in and water. I exercise 3x's a day 10min at a time. I upped my workouts to 2 fifteen min walks and I am swimming. Am I doing something wrong or what? I am going to the Lord today and ask for answers but if anyone out there can help I would appreciate it. Sorry for the pity party but it has been on my mind and I had to get it out.

One Q. Did your surgeon clear you for swimming? Other than walking, you need to ask your surgeon what exercise you can do, because you are still early out. Any exercise that puts stress on your abdominal area, you need to be careful about, because it can pull your staple lines and your muscle, which is still weak from surgery. Just because your surface incisioins are closed, doesn't mean that your insides are well healed. You just had major surgery, and major rearrangement of your guts, which means your insides will take some time to heal.

As for your weight loss, you're doing perfectly well, The first order for your body right now is to complete the healing first, not to lose weight. You need to water it and feed it, so it will heal without complications.
Never compare yourself with others, your body will start shedding what it needs to shed in due time.
Patience is the name of the game.

    Hello Tigrer,
I am so sorry you are feelin down right now, but I kind of understand what you are feeling. I was not totally prepared for the 18 lb water weight gain in the hospital, and it has taken until today (1 week and 1 day) later to get back to the weight I was at when I went in for surgery!

As long as you are doing everything you are instructed to do, you will be fine. There is no way you will not lose weight after having the surgery and it will all come off in good time, or better yet (in God's time). Be encouraged and know that you are not stuck. (hugs) Triuness

Hi Tigrer, it's me again. I had my 10 day check up yesterday. By their scale, I've only lost 2 pounds! Imagine that...for a second I started to get really upset, but I thought about you. I told the nurse that my scale at home was much nicer. I have been weighing myself daily at the same time as they instructed, and I am the only one who saw what I weighed when I came home from the hospital and what I weigh today. I hope you're feeling better. Carisa
