Question Food Journaling

My Dietician wants me to keep a daily food journal, what a PIA. By the time I remember to write in it i have forgotten what and how much I have had for that day, does anyone have any advice as to what they do or use??? I would really like a pocket journal. And what are you all keeping track of??? Protein, calories, amount of sugar etc... It's like writing a book. She wants times of eating and duration of meals and when i drink fluids and at what time and how much and totals at the end of the day, blah blah blah... I know it can be important but all that detail is interfereing with my concentration on what and how to eat it is stressing me. HELP...

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

try doing it before. use the journal to plan ahead for the day. i know if i wait until i actually eat i willforget to eat altogether. put a positive spin on it or youll never get the hang of it. come on you can do it! we can help you with this. how many meals are you allowed to have?

I kept a food journel for almost 2 years with a dietician before my surgery. I tried to lose weight with a dietician first and it just did not work and I got lots of unexpected health problems during that time. Then In Jan. of last year I tried another dietician for 3 months and still did not work and I did everything she said. When I had a food journel I used a notebook and I wrote the date and day on top of the page and then I wrote breakfast down on top and then I had to journel starch, veg., fruits, meats, and fats and condiments and then the free stuff, like the sugar free foods. I had to do that for all day. Breakfast, dinner, snack in the afternoon and supper. I kept the notebook at my place where I sat and wrote everything down I had on my plate. I always dished out the food I could have and then I just wrote it down with every meal I ate. So like I said I had it at my spot at the table all the time.
Now that I had gastric bypass all I do is count my carbs. and proteins and try to keep my fats low as I can. I do this all in my head now. So when I have to go to the dieticain all I have to journel is two days worth of food. I do not have to see a dietician for a year from my gastric surgery. That would be around Sept. 10 of this year. I also see my surgeon at that time.

I Usually Input Everything Into Fitday.com Which Tracks All My Food Intake, Calories, Fat, Proteins, Carbs, Etc. I Somtimes Write It Before Hand Like Kenya Said And Somtimes I Write After And If I Think Im Going To Forget Then What I Do Is The Minute I Put It In My Plate I Jot It On A Scrap Paper And Then Later On I Input It In Fitday.com

Its Such A Habit Now I Cant Ever Not Do It.

all that info that she's wanting is pretty important..if you just keep it with you at all times then you can get in the habit of writing it down. When it's in black/white then it's easier for an outsider to look at it and see trends...ones that work and ones that don't. Plus it helps you to really get in the mind frame of creating new habits AND being very aware of what you eat/drink and when/how.
