Default How does Everyone stay so positive??

Hi,

I will be 4 weeks post op tomorrow and returning back to work. I have not kept much food down and frankly I am getting sick of this whole expierence. Everyone on here is so positive and happy.....what am I doing wrong? I have tried following the information from my dietician to the letter but my body has it's own ideas. I find I am skipping meals just so I do not get sick.

I hope one day each and everyone of you can say to me..."remember when you were ill, depressed and had regrets of surgery??" Right now I am not feeling it!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

It's not normal to be throwing up all the time. You should call your surgeon... you may have a stricture. Keep your chin up! We're happy because we've seen the results of surgery. Trust me, I was not a happy camper in the first few weeks. I was depressed and missed "normal" food. It gets better, so hang in there!!!

I'm sorry to hear you are so bummed. I have not had surgery yet so I don't really have any advice because I don't know how it feels but I'm sure with time your feelings will pass. (((((HUGS)))))

hey. it takes some getting use to. i still get sick off things i eat. im not even talking about dumping. meats are just not cool sometimes lol. but you learn to adjust. no more can you just pile it in without thinking. thats the beauty of this. you dont see it now but you will. just go one day at a time. when you wake up in the morning just think "i made it past yesterday" and treck on. we're all here for you

Things to think about
is it everything that you eat that makes you sick or just certain things?
are you chew chew chewing or eating fast?
how long are you waiting in between meals?
when you get sick, do you just feel sick or are you actually puking?

i would say if you are throwing up all the time you need to keep your surgeon in the loop just to be safe.

PS dont skip meals. the pouch will learn to accept what you give it in time. at some point these things wont make you sick. hang in there. it gets better and better i promise.

I am very sorry that you are not feeling well. I did not experience some of the same feelings but I know others that have and I am sure there are others on the boards that have felt the same. It is really kind of weird early out because what you expected did not come and what you didn't expect did. Remeber that this is a journey for your health so listen to what your body is telling you and if something is not right then consult your surgeon.

Kim:

Boy, do I remember being exactly where you are! It was really hard for me for the frst 6-8 weeks. I was so depressed and sick of the whole thing, just like you. I came on here and Doc suggested I look back at the early posts of some of the people here that I considered "so positive and all together". I did and I saw that nearly everyone had gone through the same things that I was feeling.

It is not easy to get over all the head hunger and carb cravings. I was missing my friend food so much. I would think about food contantly, 24 hours a day. But if I tried to eat anything, it made me sick. I seriously regretted the whole thing for a while.

But...just like everyone here told me, it does get better. After about 8 weeks out, things improved so much. Now I really don't have those cravings anymore. I can eat a better variety and the "head hunger" is not such a huge problem. I can now say that this really is the best thing that I have ever done for myself.

Hang in there and try to take it just one day at a time. Come here and vent and cuss and take out that anger and frustration. We all know what you are going through and we want to make sure that you get past it. Once on the other side you will be a shoulder to lean on for someone else.

I promise it gets better!!!

Thanks!

Kenya you made me cry. I am just a ball of nerves right now. I try to eat at 7 am, 12 noon and 5 pm. I may be eating a little too fast but I know I am not getting enough in me. Within minutes I am throwing up. So far the ONLY thing, other than soft foods, that has stayed down is Chili. But I pureed the beans and grounded the sirlion meat very fine.

Should I try to eat a little more after I throw up?

awww dont cry. lol. we're all here for a reason its very frustrating in the beginning but its a learning experience. you are learning HOW to eat. little things will help you slow down if you are eating too fast. put the fork down in between bites; count how many times you chew. these are tricks that worked for me. this early out, it shoudlnt take less than 30-45 minutes to eat. crazy right? lol.

now, when you throw up, is it "foamy" or is it the actual food you just ate? if its foam, then you have eaten too fast or you havent chewed properly or maybe your pouch just doesnt want what you are giving it. if its the food, maybe youd better let your dr know?

for now i would stick to what you KNOW you can keep down. dont mix different things. try one food per day to see if we can figure out EXACTLY whats making you sick. take it slow.

are you using any protein supps or shakes? when you get sick, try liquids for a while and then work you way back up to the food food. dont eat immediately after. sometimes mr pouchy thinks he is in charge and we need to let him have his way for a few hours

one day at a time.

Hang in there Kim, it does get better, I am 3 months out and I have gone through what you have. I was such a fast eater my whole life and it is soooooo hard to learn to eat slower, I am still learning and and have to really focus on my eating and I do count the chews and I don't swallow til it is so mushy, have thrown up to much from not chewing and eating fast. This is such a learning experience, but at times I have regreted doing it but then I think of the results that have gone on and it is all worth it. I know it is hard but hang in there.

I just had my supper a little bit ago and I think I overdid it a bit - this is def a learning process that we go thru for a long time. I think everyone on the boards lifts eachother up so it helps us stay positive. I remember early out if I got thru an hour doing good and feeling good I thought I had accomplished something! Go slow and try doing one thing at a time to see what pouchy likes or doesnt. Good luck ~ keep taking care of you, especially going back to work. Rest as much as possible
