Default Alaskan Cruise....

OK- so I am thinking way ahead, but that's just how I am. As a reward for meeting my weight loss goal in the summer of 2009 (HA! Told ya I was a planner) I am going to go on an Alaskan Cruise with my hubbie and kids. (who will be 4 and 6 by then)

Has anyone been on one to Alaska? If so which stops did you make, and what would you recommend or not based on your experience. There are a lot of options with ports of call and even the inside or outside passage they cruise and I just want to pick the best one! Any suggestions or opinions are welcome, all we know for sure is we are booking a room with a verandah!

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Way to go planning ahead for yourself! Went on an Alaskan cruise 2 years ago. CANT WAIT TO GO there again... It was awesome, amazing, just beautiful. Cruised on Holland America and was very happy with the line. Juneau is the state cap. and I was not really impressed with that port. Sitka and Ketchican were just the best. In SitKa we went in a glass bottom, submerged boat and saw under the ocean, that was awesome. One of those 3 ports had the famous red dogg saloon, that is a must see and you sign the walls, famous for the old time miners and such...Very layed back and nice people all around the towns. Wanted to see a moose,no luck, havde to take an excursion farther inland I heard, next time....Cruised into Glacier Bay another must see, we had such nice weather when we went and we got so close to the Glaciers they were truly breathtaking. I could go on for a long time so...... When they said pack for all occasions and all types of weather they were right. I took a variety of things from bathing suit and flip flops to formal stuff and shorts and sweaters, and I honestly used everything I packed except the b suit,(too fat, lol), Enjoy...it was the trip of a lifetime for me!!!! Actually, we are planning an Alaskan Cruise for late summer 09 (maybe I'll see you there!) So just in the planning stages, but I will tell you this, you have to get a stateroom with a veranda. I'm told the views are just amazing and why be on a boat and not be able to wittness it all? We've done 2 cruises so far, Disney and the eastern coast, all the ports up to Canada in the fall. If I hadn't had a stateroom with a veranda not only would I have lost my mind, but I would have missed out on some of the most beautiful views (even the moon reflecting off the water at night, wow!)
Also, we plan on cruising up, spending a few days on land, even traveling a little and then flying home. This way we have less of the 10 or so days on a boat (not that that's not lovely) but more time to explore Alaska. If you cruise up and then down too that's most of your days. So far we are looking at Holland America and Princess.
I'm going to try to attach a picture, it's a sunrise in Nova Scotia

Nice! My hubby is very active and wants to hike the glaciers, kayak, and any other adventure he can convince me to do. I know that since I won't be obese I can do all these now! That would be too funny if we went the same time- a little WLS reunion!

I know! I am so looking foward to a vacation where I don't have to wonder if I fit in a chair, or have to stay back because I just can't keep up, or my ankles are screaming at the end of the day, or being too embarrased to go in the hot tub with Hubby. And of course, being able to walk and climp and sight see. You know what else I'm looking foward too...packing beautiful clothes, thinking about outfits and what goes...you know, girley stuff, not packing what I had to settle for because it's all that fits Yes, that would be a hoot if we met up!

Hubby and I have always wanted to go on an Alaska cruise, it sounds so fun. We did have an occasion in 05 and went on an Eastern Carribean cruise for 7 days is was so fabuolous, so want to go again but need to afford it first.

This trip is def on my list of "Things to do before I die". 09 is a bit soon for us but it sounds absolutely wonderful. Maybe could plan this trip for my son's college grad gift? That gives me 4 years to save up! Who am I kidding????? Maybe when college grad son and college grad dau can pay for mom and dad to go LOL! There's always the lottery

We did the eastern caribbean last March and it was so wonderful. Honestly, 7 days was almost too long. I think a 5 day trip is best for our family.
