Weight Loss Method - | I have no idea what is going on but when I stand or sit I get like electrical shocks going up and down my right leg and foot and when I get up from sitting, I get a severe shock at the top of my right thigh. My extremities have been getting extremely frozen. As if there is no circulation. My kids saw my feet were so white and felt like literal ice to the touch that they started crying because they thought I was dying Do you know what this is? I asked my PCP before and she said that it was Diabetic neuropathy but then it went away for awhile and now has resurfaced. I am almost ready to give up![]()

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I'd visit your doctor again. He has far more experience with you than anyone on this forum. Diabetes is nothing to mess around with. If the symptoms have returned, you need to let your doctor know as soon as possible.

| Super Moderator | Okay, if you take a look at my profile, you'd know that my speciality is diabetes mellitus, which is what most people mean by diabetes, the abbreviation being DM (not to confuse you, but there's a totally different illness called diabetes insipidus, which I am not a speciaist of). That's why I'm familiar with health problems from excess weight--as excess weight makes this illness overt and also aggravatest the condition, and am concerned with how to control these issues. And, of course, you should go to your dr. But, it's fine to ask questions and get a handle on what MAY be wrong, so you have some idea to how to put forward your concerns, and get the attention you need. I've found that form time to time, patients don't know how to state their symptoms and concerns, and so get brushed off by their drs as the whatever not being serious, that later causes a lot of trouble. When my non MD friends ask health questions, I'm quite happy to give them (and every one of you on the board) pointers to help them out, and make sure to send them off to their own drs armed with basic info so they can understand better what their own drs tell them. So go ahead and ask, but always keep in mind that you need to consult your dr for the diagnosis and treatment. Whenever I read something that I know you MUST go to your dr for, I always write ASAP, and go to the ER if you need to. Now, that said. 1) The *electricity* pain that you speak of, can be a symptom of advanced diabetic neuropathy. 2) However, there are other possibilities, and two of them are a) a slipped disk--this can cause a similar pain and numbness as well b) a deep vein thrombosis--this can cause pain as well, and also discoloration of the affected limb due to the blocked circulation. The above three are what are fairly common, but of course, there are other, more obscure causes. So, you MUST go to your dr--PCP or your endocrinologist, and be seen to. You should be seen by other specialists as well,--neurolologist, cardiologist, orthopedic surgeon etc-- depending on the cause, but at any rate, you'll need a series of exams, both physical, and radiological, to determine the cause. This is going to take both time and money, but it HAS to be loooked into ASAP. |

Weight Loss Method - | Thank you Doc and everyone else. I will make an appointment to see my PCP. I haven't been to my endocrinologist for about 6 months because of lack of insurance. Not cool I know but the Dr visit costs $75-$100. I am sure she is not pleased with me:0 I have been tested several times for deep vein thrombosis but said I did not have it. Kind of nervous though because my uncle died a year ago while cooking in his kitchen from deep vein thrombosis. He also had diabetes melitus and was a smoker for a long time. Hopefully I'll go to the dr. soon. Thanks again!
