Default why no diet soda????

ok,,i have a question?? i am in withdrawel here..I MISS DIET SODA!! Does anyone know WHY we cannot have it?? I know it has something to do with the carbonation. But what exactly is the harm with the carbonation?? Does it stretch the pouch? It was bad enough giving up caffiene and i am actually over that..but lately i am gnawing at the bit for a diet coke!! I remember reading somewhere there was no medical proof it was bad after gastric bypass,, but then again you cannot believe everything you read! Anyone with more info on the diet soda dilemna...please lemme know!! thanks!!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Well, actually...
Basically, carbonation is named as the culprit, it won't stretch your pouch per se, but it can kind of bloat you up. Also, closer to the truth is that it can bring on other cravings that you associated with soda pops pre op, that aren't the healthiest of foods.
Another thing is, not all, but many of them have artificial sweetners to replace sugar and to bring the calorie down, and some times, post ops develop intolerance to artificial sweetners. Some soda pops also contain caffeine.

Default soda

You only had surgery in early January, 2008. Caffeine can help to dehydrate you, and the carbonation can cause possible damage this soon after surgery. The doctors ask that you try to avoid them, as they can become a bad habit, like probably prior to surgery. I'm 21 months post op, and am 61 years young. I have the mental control to have a diet soda every couple of days. I pour into a glass with ice, and let it set for 15 minutes before tasting it. I sip this 12 oz soda over a period of about an hour. This is my treat. But I won't have 6 of these in a day either. Too many of today's generation have grown up on sodas every day. This is one reason for obesity in children today, and why many schools are taking out soda machines.

Two months ago I had a fizzed out rootbeer. I let it stand open in a cup for 9 hours in the frig. Then I drank it, well it was no biggie to me becasue that was the last time I had a diet soda. But I am going to try a protein drink using diet rootbeer. I have to fizz it out overnight in the frig. then I add vanilla protein powder to it and it is suppose to taste like a rootbeer float. I still have not tried it yet and I have the bottle of diet rootbeer sitting in my house for almost 2 weeks. Pop just does not interest me at all. I am into ice cold water or sugarfree koolaids. I do very little of the sugarfree koolaids, I am more into really ice cold water. I even put my bottle of water into the frezzer and let it freeze a bit and then drink it, ohhh is that good. I have this orange protein powder that I ordered and it sure does not taste like the sample they send me, and it is just sitting on the shelf so my husband mentioned to me to buy some sugar free Tang and mix it in there. That just might be good. My husband is into the protein drinks too.
As for the soda that is not fizzed out I am scared to death to drink it and I do not want that bloating feeling and I am so scared of stretching my pouch. I think you are way to early to drink any kind of diet soda. If you crave for the diet coke, and just have to have on, make sure it is completely fizzed out, this early out. Like Ragdolldude said, to do it like he does, but like he said he is almost two years out.

i think it's a trigger. if you absolutely have to have it, let it go flat and take a sip. but even as far out as i am i do not drink it regularly. when i do have it, it makes me want "stuff" to go with it. pizza, burger, chips....need i say more? lol!

i know the rumor about All artificial sweeteners is that it makes you crave sweets..
also the pouch can't handle the carbonation... i'd stay away all together, but that's me..
good luck,
