Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass  |  RNY and Cold Season (Graphic) I dont know where this goes, so please move if you feel the need. I have caught a cold or something.....runny nose, sore throat (hurts to swallow my own spit), poo that is very very light tan, and I have cramps like Im in labor (and no Im not preggo! Hubby has been in Iraq since Feb 2007) with severe, painful gas at times. I have to go to the military hospital for care and when I called to get an appointment in the clinic they cut me off as soon as I said I was a bariatric patient. They "cant and dont know how" to treat me. I think I might have like gastroenteritis and strep...the gastro stuff is what worries me the most. I see my surgeon this Thursday for my 3 month follow up, but he isnt going to see me for a cold and I feel miserable that I really dont want to wait. My son was in the ER last week (at the military hospital) and 12 hours later he was diagnosed with viral pneumonia. I dont want that either...he had the same symptoms except for the poo problem. Suggestions? Information? Anything? Thanks! Sharon

| Super Moderator  | If they won't give you an appt, walk into the ER, it does sound like you have a strep throat and viral enteriits, too. Also, call your surgeon's office anyway, tell them what's up, he just might be willing to see you, or at least give you a referral, and also ask what antibiotics you can take, as some of them will make your pouch queezy. But heck, what kind of a clinic is it that cuts off a person needing help just because you're an WLS patient, sheesh, the least they could do is hear you out

The military hospitals and their doctors get scared to treat bariatric patients that arent at least a year out. Makes no sense...I know..but hence its the Army. I have a civilian doctor that I saw as a kid that is only 2 doors down from my surgeon...I thought about calling him if my surgeon cant get me in. I will call both as soon as they open in an hour.

CLASSIC case will come with stomach upset and throwing up so u need to get cultured for the strept and on some antibiotics to know for sure. I am seeing all kinds of bugs thru my program but i think my lucky stars i have not caught any this season but a mild case of the horrible stomach bug! HUGS HANG IN THERE AND FEEL BETTER SOON

He has even had to contact tricare and b!@#$ them out saying if they didnt coverthe visit he would admit me to their (surgeons) hospital and tricare would end up picking up a higher expense, needless to say they covered my appointment with him on non- surgery related issue...so please talk to your surgeon about the stomach issues, he can help you |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Well I went to the military clinic for sick call. The doctor gave me a numerous pills...and Im not taking any of them until my surgeons office calls me. He shrugged his shoulders and said "I dont know how to treat you. Call your surgeon." But he did say I have the crud. So just waiting for the surgeons nurse to call me back.
