Default old bigger clothing

My support group has an open policy: anyone can bring clothes that are too big to the support groups to donate. I went to a support group last night, and it probably had about 120 people, pre and post ops, and there were about 10 bags of clothing. People clean out their closets of clothing that is now too big, and offer it to other people going through the size transitioning after surgery. Only rule is that it be in good condition, and the person donating their clothing has to take any that is left home with them. I'd rather my "too big" clothes go to another WLS patient, than go elsewhere.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Default my support groups

The monthly support groups I usually participate in are put on by my surgeon. Dr. David Suh is a highly repsected general surgeon in my area, and does a vast majority of RNY surgeries for more than one insurance company, on an "outsourced" basis, ie, he has far more experience that the HMO member surgeons. He has done some roughly 3000 of the RNY surgeries in the past 9 years. Because of this, the support groups have many pre ops, as well as many post ops (including me) who find monthly attendance beneficial. I strongly urge anyone considering RNY surgery or post op RNY surgery patients to attend monthly support meetings, as they give you current medical information on RNY, offer face to face meeting of other patients, allow you to share personal experiences, etc. It's more personal than an online forum. Even if you have to drive some distance to attend a monthly meeting, I'd make the effort.

I do love my monthly meetings. I also encourage people to join them. It is nice having someone right there to talk to. They just don't have them often enough.Once weekly especially in the beginning would be great. I'm a few hours away from st. vincents , they do have them a lot more if you live there...I would not trade RR online forum! They have been my backbone thru all of this.I love them all dearly!

Dave I just cleaned more clothes out of my closet yesterday, think I will take them to my next support meeting, too bad I just went Weds. night. It does get expensive having to buy new things, although I'm a consignment shopper too, so you can find decent clothes sometimes, also Goodwill here is decent.

I just gave ANOTHER Lawn and Leaf garbage bag full of clothes to my cousin. When I called her to tell her, she said "its not another 5 bags is it?" HAHAHAHAHA. It was just one this time, but I sure can go through them now. I was going to give them to Goodwill or something like that, but I KNOW that my cousin is in desperate need of them as she is starting her life all over again.

If there are >100 people in one meeting, wouldn't it be nice if a staff member can arrange another meeting, maybe in a nearby area, another night? I think participation is a very important part to support groups, and I would feel horrible if I had a real need to participate and did not get an opportunity because of the size of the group.

Love the idea about the clothing exchange. All my clothes are Wal-mart and pretty much rags (waiting for the surgery before any big clothing investments) but I would LOVE to "borrow" some smaller size stuff when the time comes!
