Hi everyone,

I know I'm a bit of a posting queen tonight. I saw my surgeon this week and just wanted to say it went well! He was very pleased with my progress and said all my bloodwork was "pristine."

One thing I was a little confused about is that he said that weight training is not important right now (which I thought that it was to preserve muscle or something). He says wait until goal weight and then start weight lifting in maitenence, and that if I really want to do it now, then do low weight, a couple reps in between 2 bouts of cardio which should be 20 mins each..preferably on the treadmill or stairclimber. Does anyone else hear this stuff? How are you all working out at this stage?

Lastly, we talked about my calorie intake, which sits now between 650-850 per day. He said that is great and that we should not be up into the 1000s until maintenence anyway...

Okay thats the update..happy losing everyone

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Congratulations on the great report.
A lot of surgeons do not give clearance to their post ops for full exercise until they are 3-6 month out. Part of it is that too much heavy lifting will weaken your abdominal walls, and along with losing a lot of fat in your tummy area, that can be a cause for hernias.
I know the different instructions y'all get from your respective surgeons but you do need to stick to your own surgeon's program, as s/he's the one who knows best what your inside is like, now.

you are still early out, but I completely disagree that you wait until you reach goal to do this. It has been so important to toning up what I have left under my sagging skin....I'm no doctor, but it just doesn't sound right.

thanks kath and doc

yes I of course will follow my surgeon's instructions. He didn't say don't do it, he said more like its not that important and don't overdo it if I am going to do it. He also suggests that whether your skin is loose in the end has little to do with exercise or weight lifting, even though they are ultimately both important in lifestyle changes.

anyways, it gets a little confusing, but I am working with a trainer who got a release from my surgeon, including his recommendations for how we work together.

sorry i know nothing about weight training. i am a lazy bum lol! i will just be beginning a workout regimen myself trying to train for a police officer agility test so its all new to me. i remember my surgeon would only clear me to walk at first. then like around 3 or 4 months he said i could work out but no "heavy" lifting. to me all lifting is heavy

go get em'!! from what i understand exercise releases a hormone that makes one feel "good" i have yet to experience this. the only thing i release is sweat YUCK. lol.
