Default Anyone with young children have RNY??

I'm just in the beginning phase of this journey but had a few questions about after the surgery.

I have a soon to be 2 year old (next month) and a 3 1/2 year old. Both are smart as a whip and will certainly notice when Mommy starts not eating anything. Especially when we have the "No Thank You bite rule" in our house where you have to have one bit of everything on your plate at least. It's not really to make my kids eat MORE, but to get them to try new foods and decide if they like them or not. My daughter is very picky. Anyway... how did you explain to your small children why your eating has changed suddenly??? Also..... how long was it before you could actively participate and feel like doing things with them?? How long before you could pick them up again?? Both my kids weigh around 32 lbs.

TIA for your responses.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hi

Yes I Have A Young One At Home But My Daughter Who Will Be 2 In June Is To Young To Understand Anything Right Now. Infact When We Show Her B4 And After Pics Of Me She Always Points To The After And Doesnt Really Acknowledge The B4. I Really Dont Think My Daughter Has Really Noticed How Her Mommy Ate When I First Had The Surgery Almost 8 Mo Ago.

It Took Me A Long Time Till I Was Up And About And Carrying My Daughter Who Doesnt Weight Much At All At Almost 21 1/2 Mo Right Now She Only Weighs 21lbs Lol. But I Had A Lot Of Complications Back When I Had My Surgery So Im Not A Good Person To Ask But I Know Someone Else On Here Who Had A Smooth Surgery Will Ans That For Ya.

Welcome And Good Luck

hello. my daughter was 4 going on 5 when i had my surgery. the first week home she spent with the sitter. after that i was fine with her. she was actually quite helpful. it took me a few weeks to be able to get on the floor with her but she went walking with me twice a day for the 5 weeks we were home together. it was great having her with me. and now she eats my scraps LOL.

my daughter can read now. so she sees me on here. she understands the surgery made my tummy smaller so i could be healthy. and thats the extent that its been explained to. she sees im smaller and likes shopping with now (we both shop in the kids section) and likes the fact that we spend more time out doing things as opposed to in the house.

the only complaint i have gotten is that i am not soft and squishy anymore. i am "hard" but she just brings a pillow when he have cuddle time

My children are 12 and 9. They went to my moms when I had the surgery done. It was over a school break week. They knew I was having surgery but they really didnt ask alot of questions prior to the surgery and they came home the day after I got home from the hospital. To them I looked fine and was just tired. they saw my incisions but they were small and then a few days later they went back to school while I stayed home. I was still able to get up and get them ready for school and off they went. To them nothing really changed on the outside. I did really well after sugery and didnt have any complications and all went smoothly. I would make sure I got all my rest in while they were at school and I still sat down at the dinner talbe every night with them. I wouldnt eat what they had of course. I would eat my yogurt or whatever.
Now a days I do get razzed about my tiny little portions. They laugh at my tiny little spoonfulls of stuff. But they understand. A few times my son has asked when I would be able to eat certain things again. I told him that some things are not good for my pouch. they know when I am having a bad time with something. They always say, whats the matter mom, you have a grouchy pouchy.

Thanks for your replies ladies. I know my children are really young and they won't even remember this time. My daughter already comments about my weight though and that's part of what's gotten me motivated.

A New Me ~ I saw you had your surgery April 11.. that's my son's birthday, he'll be 2 this year... what a great day for a birth.. or a REbirth

Yup April 11th was my new begining. Hard to believe that I am coming up on my one year mark. Time has flown. Seems like only yesterday I was goign to my initial seminar.
Soon enough you will be on your way and crossing off each step on your list and then it will be your day to start anew and come on over to the loosers bench with the rest of us.

Yeah I think its Barbie that had her surgery on my b-day, September 5th and then someon else, I cant remember had theirs on 2/13 and that is my sons b-day.

hello! my kids are 8 and 6, so they are a little older than urs. I told my kids what i was having surgery for, so they know why i cannot eat too much, it is great too to see them making heathier choices on their own now that they see me doing it too. when i got out of the hospital my kids were at home with me right away but seeing as how they are older they can do alot on their own. all of their needs that they do need help with i did right away.

I have been having surgeries since my seven year old and well my other two as well were little. And all I can say is be honest. Explain what you think they can handle and dont go into to much detail unless they ask

I have a 3 1/2 year old who weighs about 36-37 lbs. I picked him up once or twice about a week post-op because I forgot, but I was ok. But for the most part, I don't have to pick him up because he's very independant. I just had to, and still have to, guard myself when he comes near me because he jumps on me!

Kelly~ do you mind if I ask where you're located?? I realized what a small world it was when, the first day I was here, A New Me told me she's from the same town I am and had her surgery at the same practice I'm having mine. It's nice to hear positive stories from people close by.... and far away.. but you know what I mean?!?
