| ADVENTURES OF FEMME: Part II Wow…has this been “A WEEK”!!! I’m sooo frustrated….and a bit angry! Wednesday ….I was holding my friend’s dog, and went to put him down…and threw out my back…OMG…it was sooooo painful. I called my hubby panicked and fearful….of course in tears, and thought at the time I couldn’t walk or stand w/o pain. I couldn’t imagine what I had done. We went to the chiropractor and he did some tests and diagnosed me with a partially herniated disk between L4 & L5. After doing “the works” on me…and putting me on a traction bed….I walked away with relief – yet still in pain…but, more manageable. He told me no sitting, pushing, pulling lifting etc…..and I was to be on “bed rest” for 2 days….I made an appointment for Friday. Then Thursday morning…all I was doing was going to the restroom…and when I stood up….OUT WENT MY BACK! This time it was excrutiating(sp.?) I am normally pretty pain tolerant…so, this thru me for a loop. I was nauseated….and began a 36 hour vomiting spree!! We went back to the chiropractor….and he announced that I was much worse off (duh!) and that I had 3 additional herniated disks….on the right side btwn L3 & L4 this time…and on the left L4 & L5….as well as between L5 & S1. ~ He did his thing…and I walked away feeling better…except I was still not able to keep food down…and then later that day began the diarrea. UGH! I was still flat on my back….and still in a large amount of pain. During the night on Thursday/Friday….I stopped vomiting…but the #2 continued. So, Friday….I called my surgeon to let him know what was going on…as well as ask him about being dehydrated b/c I could keep nothing down or in~ to no avail…he was in surgery all day – his nurse sent me for an “upper GI.” (Lovely…) That was hard to do with my pain…but also very neat – because I got to see my very very small stomach – VERY COOL! Wow…this was the second best part of my day. Anyway, after that …we went to my Primary Care Physician – he recommended that b/c it was mid-afternoon on Friday that I go to the emergency room. Where the doctors had access to all sorts of things so they could run blood work…mri….the whole “sha-bang”! So, off I went for a 5 hour adventure I couldn’t sit….so I had to lay on a bench for an hour for my turn (which in this case – and hour is not bad…) the ER was relatively quiet. They took blood…diagnosed that I was dehydrated….gave me an IV….and some pain meds thru my IV….and I began the “WAIT.” Unfortunately….I didn’t find out exactly what I had done on my back….and waited hours for no new info….and was told to just wait a couple of weeks…and “See what happens” – I can just imagine being in NYC, with no car – and only my legs….and trying to haul around ‘Bella , shopping cart….stroller etc up and down stairs of the subway…..I’m still frustrated with this bit. But, doing better today b/c I did leave the ER with two scrips for a pain killer and a muscle relaxant. (couldn’t get anything for the inflamation b/c of RNY) My vomiting and diarrea subsided Friday night too…and I couldn’t help but weigh….I just had to know what I was even though I was sick and it totally didn’t count…but I was 267.4 LOL!!! Now, today, Saturday…..I’m feeling fine – but am on top of the pain with the meds. I can walk sooo much better….and although I feel the pain still….it is NO WHERE near the pain I was feeling before. I don’t feel so bad. I’m hoping that the ER Doc was right and I just pulled a muscle or something….and all will be back to normal soon. We are still w/o internet connection. In fact I am composing this in a ‘word doc’ now…and will cut and paste it when I can get to the café. Hopefully it will be today…but, most likely will be tomorrow morning. (Sunday) I miss you all…and hope I’ll have time to read some of your posts to catch up with you all….I look forward to being‘settled’ in our new home….only 3 weeks from today until we leave! I’m excited…and a little nervous that everything will go smoothly…and as planned. Talk to you soon….oh BTW….after eating now for a day….I am 270.4…..63.4# - I’m thrilled….wonder what I’ll be for my 3mos. Post op anniversary. That is coming up in 10days…Maybe 68#?? I’d love to be 265….solid. I haven’t weighed that in YEARS!!! Anyways…just dreaming…..I know I will be there soon enough….I don’t have to be obsessive….(and yet, I am…..tee hee!) |

Awwwwww, Deborah, ((((((((HUGS))))))))
One word of advice, with all the weight you have been carrying around for years, it's quite possible you have some back damage even though you are young. (Remember when Craig was laid up for a while earlier this year?) I think it would be best for you if you could get an appt with an orthopedic surgeon at the earliest chance you get, to assess if there is anything that you need to have treated. In the meanwhile, whatever there is, the more you lose weight, the easier it will be on your back, too.
(((((HUGS)))))) again, hope you'll be feeling better soon!!

Deb,
Sorry about all the pain. Back stuff is the worst!! Plus all the other things that you have been doing...when it rains it pours as they say. I hope that you get all the medical attention that you need.
Like Doc says, the weight loss certainly works in you favor here. Get yourself to the ortho ASAP while your on home turf and you know what your dealing with. Good luck and feel better. Your weight loss is incredible!!!
Hang in,
Kat

Oh, Deb!
I hurt just reading your post! Here I sit feeling sorry for myself because my shoulders hurt from knots in them...I can't even imagine the pain of throwing out your back.
Aren't you glad you're on the path towards losing weight? I wonder if you can avoid surgery if you drop a lot. Hmmm....
I hope you don't have to go there, though. The wls journey is a challenge in itslef w/o adding all of your adventures.
Vicki

Awwww Hanadi....big huge HUGG to you. I understand the concept of homesickness. Sometimes I still get sick for my mountains and my front porch even though I know that when I do go back for a visit that nothing will ever be the same. Time goes on and people grow and change. I know that I have deffinately changed since moving away.
