I thought I would put this in a different thread, so here goes. Why do people see us and act different to us when we are heavy and once you lose alot of weight, they are so different to you. I really noticed that yesterday, I never got that much attention from salespeople when I was at my heaviest and now it is so new to me that I lost all that weight. It seemed like they could not wait to get away from me when I was so heavy. I did not smell or anything like that, becasue if I did my husband sure would let me know if I stink!!! LOL, I still am the same person now as I was before I lost all that weight. But it bugs me so much now that I have lost all this weight and I am getting much more attention from salepeople now. I will never treat someone that way, just the fact that they are heavy. They are people too with feelings, and I was in those shoes and know what it feels like. So this is what I noticed lately. It just pisses me off when I was heavy and how I was treated then and treated now, such a difference.

its definitely something worth thinking about. its hard to; at least for me, because i carry a long of anger about this very subject. I KNOW i wouldnt have crossed paths with the same people i have had i still been havy. but sometimes we have no control over how others respond or react to weight or the loss of it. all you can do is stay as sweet as you ever were! |

sad, but VERY true...I get all kinds of attention now, where before I wouldn't.....I go in stores to shop with my daughter....when I was heavier, the salespeople ignored me (which makes some sense, I couldn't wear anything they were selling and they knew it)....but now, it's a COMPLETE different experience!

i have yoyo'd with my weight all my life. what really has offended me in the past is when "friends" make comments after i have lost weight such as "you sure must feel better about yourself now" ~~ i generally just smile but inside i want to blast them!

i have noticed this too with many ppl, i would never treat anyone differently but really that is the way the world works, we can only be in charge of what we do as individuals

Weight Loss Method Physician Prescribed Diet/Exercise | I think it's like a 60/40 thing. First you have all the prejudices of the world coming at you. What has always angered me is men hitting on me who would have LAUGHED when I walked by before!!! Thank god I'm married! People are soooo uncomfortable about FAT (that COULD be them somehow someday) that we're actually INVISIBLE to lots of people. It's like they have "fat blinders" on. We're right there with the guy in the wheel chair--who nobody makes eye contact with unless it's inescapable. Then there's the second part that's not so negative. WE tend to get our hair done, dress nicer, do our nails, keep our make-up (if we wear any) fresh--not to mention get a whole new wardrobe--after losing weight. These positive things along with a more happy and positive outlook tends to attract more people I think. XOXO Mya |

Kitty you know when I went in for my 6 month follow up my doc and physcologist both asked how I was dealing with how people treat me now, I asked why that was and my phys said she thinks we are more approachable to people now. I told her I dont like them invading my pesel space..lol

i think mya hit the nail on the head so to speak. we DO tend to carry ourselves better, whether we felt goo about ourselves pre-op or not lol. and that in turn could add to our approachability....
