Default Lose Vs. Loose

In a different thread I had said the only thing I get boisterous about is the criminal act of buying/selling dogs and cats.

I lied.

I get boisterous over some spelling issues. Like two vs. to vs. too.

and they're vs. their vs. there.

and, in the land of weight loss, lose vs. loose vs. loss.

Here we go....

Loose is pronounced with the oo in moon. there is a short, hard S sound.
In a sentence, "Those size 14 pants were very loose!"

Lose has the oo/moon with a soft S, or z sound, as in, "My surgeon said I had to lose 30 lbs before he would do the GBS."

Loss has the "ah" sound, like bra, with a hard S sound, as in, "My total weight loss is 98 pounds."

I feel much better now. Sometimes when I read some major blogs I lose it (loose it??? jk jk ) when I read one of those words incorrectly. I screamed when I read my own son's final report in AP English, which had been posted on the internet, and he wrote a "their" instead of a "there"! AAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!! I TOLD him I wanted to proof read it before he submitted it, but NOOOOOO! (It is OK, he got the A grade anyway.)

Thank you for letting me vent. I will be quiet now.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I couldnt agree more!!!!!
I am very anal when it comes to spelling and punctuation!
Im not perfect by a long shot, but ARGH!!! lmao

with spell check and texting, kids and most adults these days have no idea how to spell anything. Glad your boy got an A, but when the paper is full of spelling mistakes etc, (I have seen some that are SHOCKING), then they should be made to do it again correctly.

My son's teacher told me once that she wasnt doing spelling anymore as it was old fashioned. I stared at her in disbelief and assured her she was mistaken ~ thank goodness our other teachers have also disagreed with her! In the business world, it is very difficult to reach your potential unless you communicate well ~ or have a great administrative assistant!

I want to add that when one uses Mozilla Firefox as an internet browser, the misspells "red squiggly" underline automatically. (Firefox also simply works better, imv) (that "imv" was red squigglied...squigglied was red squigglied too!) That won't help in grammar or sentence construction, or using the write word (jk...it is "right" not "write"), but at least the spelling of the wrong word will be correct.

Well, I notice, too (had an English teacher who was a stickler about both spelling and grammar --lie and lay, dye and die...) but just leave them be, you just do get plain typo especially when in a hurry, and also, spell checker's aren't always perfect, they do miss their and there, to and too and so on.....
I tend to have atrocious spelling when I have my glasses off

On another note, you will not believe the kind of typo Japanese word configuration comes up with, as we have multiple choices for Chinese characters for words that have the same phonetic spelling (our basic alphabet is completely phonetic) but with totally different meanings. Some are hilarious, others are totally mortifying.

Judi you arent the 1st to post on this topic....lol.
I do have to say though that some of us type like we talk and spell phoneticaly. I for one dont use the spell check especially in a message board post. I guess I am laid back like that, I did however live with my aunt for a year after I graduated high school and boy oh boy did I get scolded on my grammer. I am from the south and talked pretty bad. Its funny to look back at now but at the time she offended me. Oh well no real point to this reply

TOO funny ladies! I struggle with the same type of frustration; however, my tendancies for frustration are more in the work environment. For instance, why does the VP not ask someone to proof his emails prior to sending them? Or, why is it that grown adults cannot create a professional written communication. My customers are people who are attaining their Doctorate. I am mortified when my staff sends something like "Tom, pls send your money for the next class." No personal greeting, mispellings, text spellings....GRRRRR.
