Default Height/BMI chart

So Doc is always quoting: You lose 1/2 your weight in the first 6 months, 1/2 of that (1/4) in the next 6 months, and the last 1/4 over the next year...
So I got out the BMI chart to try to figure things out. I'm 5'10 and the chart says that to be in the 'normal weight' range I should weigh 165 (that's actually for 5'9, it doesn't show 5'10, the next it shows is 5'11).
Also, I don't think I can get that low, like I've mentioned before, at 199 my pelvic bones bruise, so I'm shooting for 200 and then I'll re-evaluate, maybe 185....but anyway, lets just go with the figures...

If I were to set my goal at 165, then I would need to lose a total (pre-surgery) of 165 pounds. To break it down...
1/2 of 165 is 82.5 pounds (first 6 months)
1/4 of 165 is 41 pounds (second 6 monts)
last 1/4 (over the next year)

So...82.5 pounds in the first 6 months. Right now I am 10 weeks post-op, not quite 3 months, and I'm down 41 pounds, which is 1/2 of the 82.5 pounds I would need to lose in the first 6 months. I thought I was behind the curve! I'm right on. You don't see that until you put it on paper.

Yea!

Thanks Doc!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

You are right on track!! Congrats.

I really like this idea. It's a good way to see our results because sometimes we feel like we aren't losing enough.
Ok, let me see if I have this right...
If I set my goal at 150 lbs.
1/2 of 150 is 75 pounds first 6 months - I am 5 months & I have lost 76lb
1/4 of 150 is 37.5 pounds second 6 mounts
and last 1/4 over the next year

Next.....

Ummm.....no.....
If you set your goal at 150, then, 288-150 = 133
1/2 of 133 is 66.5 lbs in the first 6 months....
It is half of your excess weight, not your goal weight.
So, you are above the curve.

5'5 should be 134, I started at 233 so 99 pounds over. I'll say 100 to make it easy.

1/2 of 100 is 50 lbs. I'm down 60 lbs at 6 months and 3 weeks so I'm a little ahead of the curve. ;o)

hmm had 110 pounds excess weight to lose..
6 mo..55, 12 mo...23...24 mo..the final 23?

Well, from the beginning, I have lost 75 pounds, but..if we count from surgery date, it changes..

I was 217, so 87 pounds excess...
so 44 in the first six months..
22 more in next 6
22 more in next year??

Its been 4 and i have lost 52 (since surgery not program start)
so I am doing ok I think..a little ahead of schedule..yay for summer!

so at one year, I should be hovering around 151 (but god i hope i hit 150 before summer..is that really so unrealistic???!!

and at 2 years, should be around 130?? ugh..long time away..

am i even doing this right..this is a little depressing

Jess, you are doing excelent
At surgery date you were 217. Your goal is 130. 87 pounds.
1/2 of 87 = 44 pounds (1st 6 mo)
1/4 of 87 = 22 pounds (second 6 mo)
last 1/4 = 22 pounds (second year)

You are only 4 moths post op and already lost 52 pounds!
So ya must be doing something right!

Now I know this is not written in stone and everyone will be different...a little behind, a little ahead, and there will be Doc Sanae's 'humps and bumps' but it gives us a good idea of where we are. Some may be slow in the beginning and catch up a little later or really lose fast then slow down later, it's all good! Good luck to everyone
