I just had my routine bloodword done (yearly) and I just received a script in the mail with no explanation from my doc to get a liver enzyme test. What could be wrong? Anyone ever have to go for this?

They did a biopsy on my liver in surgery....doctor refused to NOT do it....it cost me about $500 extra dollars...and I was told they were looking for issues...I never heard anything else about it and doc didn't mention it on my 6 month check-up....let us know what you find out!

Don't freak out, call the dr. and ask what the purpose of the test is and ask him for a copy of your bloodwork, then you can see the test results. I keep copies of all my bloodwork results in a folder at home, easy to reference to and to see past levels and such. It is probably just routine. they most likely just want to make sure your liver is functioning like it should. I get one of those every year, even prior to WLS.

Don't you love how they just send something in the mail to ya? If your on any type of medications they usually do this once a year if not more. They used to do mine every three months even before I had surgery. If your on a cholesterol medication its almost mandated. The reason is to make sure it don't increase the level of the enzymes. If they do they will just change the meds. More than likely they forgot to take the extra tube of blood or the Dr forgot to order it that day and didn't realize it until they results come back. I do wish they could be a little more responsible and at least include the reason why to the patient they ask for additional test. It would make your life allot easier. My own family Dr's office is famous for stuff just like this.

I know and of course my mail comes late so I cant call anyone tonight. I just pride myself on how well this surgury has been for me. Feeling great and such. My sister is actually going to have it done. i just dont want to run into an unforseen complications. Im just being a worrywort. Oh by the way Ms Vickie U LOOK AWESOME. I dont post enoungh to talk to ya all but I see the progress and I am very happy for ALL of you!

Liver function can be affected by medication as well as with other things, including exess weight. Most obese people have fatty liver to some extent, so it just may be that your dr wants to keep track of that. Also, the kind of enzymes your dr wants to check out on can give a clue as to what he/she is looking for.
