| Help... I HATE to eat!
Ok gang, I need your help. After surgery I was always hungry and ate 3 meals a day and 2 snacks along with my protein drink.
I am now 5 1/2 weeks post op and can't stand to eat. Nothing every taste good enough to want to eat, I eat the same things over and over and I absolutely hate drinking my protein shake. I am supposed to eat 900 calories a day...somedays I probably eat 300-400 calories, and lately that is high. I have also been missing my protein drink. this is sooo bad, I'm going to look malnurished and be bald within 5 months if I can't get back on track!
PLEASE HELP ME GET BACK ON TRACK....AND HELP ME FINDS SOME FOODS TO EAT.
I am always on the "what did you eat today" to see what people are eating and I check out the "recipe section", so I am already utilizing those tools. I just need some more insight, I feel stuck in a major rut.
FYI, this is what I eat most often:
canned chicken: chicken salad, warm chicken with cheese/salsa
ham with low fat cream cheese, rolled up
tacos: shell with taco meat, cheese and salsa
triscuit with cheese
melba toast with cheese
sugar free, diet oatmeal--- yuck
special K cereal with skim milk...sometimes
scambled egg...sometimes
egg salad..can't eat anymore vomited it up, now its off the list
when out to eat:
hamburger with guacamole cheese
fish
shrimp
can't eat: pudding, broth, jello or soup, just can't do it anymore!!
tx for the help

You will find a routine...and dig around on here for alternative food choices....I fell into a rut at about 50 pounds....thinking...IS THIS ALL I WILL EVER GET TO EAT...trust me, it gets better. Watch the thread on WHAT ARE YOU EATING TODAY?? This will give you suggestions you may not have thought of! Get some sugar free popsicles...and find protein anywhere you can!
On your menu choices, play around with it...I buy the boneless/skinless chicken breast in the bag...and I bake them, grill them...add seasonings and sauces (low fat of course)....throw on some cheese...make it different!
You mention you eat burgers & tacos...you mention the shell, but not the bun....watch your carbs and fat grams...they can be killer to stalls and hunger pangs....
Last but not least....DRINK TONS OF WATER...this will help with hunger....also, GET UP AND MOVE....don't focus on the meals...don't live to eat. but eat to live...there's a huge difference!! YOU CAN DO THIS....there are too many of us further out to prove that it DOES get better!!!

I experiened the same thing. I just tried different food and it seemed to help. The protein drink I will tell ya I never liked them what so ever. My hubby made me take one a day in but the smell of them kills me. If your craving somthing then take couple bites of it. It seemed to help me kick this phase of not wanting to eat anything. You just gotta take it slow. Im sorry I cant be of more help honey but its a learning thing.

Kathy,
No, no bun on the burger, just the meat/cheese. I usually eat 3/4 of a taco with the shell, my carb intake is really low, so I give myself the shell as a bonus!
I haven't tried to eat bread, well, I will eat a little toast once in a while but it's such a waste I don't eat it anymore! I can't eat pasta either, just doesn't sit well. So my carbs are very limited, which is a good thing!
thanks for your help so far.

| Interesting perspective ~~~ anyway, I think Kath is right, you just have to find your niche and try very small amounts of new things. I personally am currently stuck on cottage cheese and can eat it several diff ways now, it is extremely healthy and I enjoy it. (Pre-op I didnt care for it, some of our tastes do change). I was sick of the classic "soft foods" for a while also, but eventually, you may decide you will like some things later on. Can you drink milk? Skim may have a few carbs in it but it is a good source of calcium and protein and I, personally, like it. I used to drink 2 c of skim milk with 1 french vanilla sf instant breakfast first thing in the morning (mainly coz I couldnt stand the protein drinks) and would start my day off with 23g of protein. Good Luck!

BallWall....
Here is the thing, I am fully aware of my pyschological issues with food, that is not what I am COMPLAINING about. I am just asking for help in food suggestions becuase right not at this time I don't want to eat, its too much trouble. Well, bottom line is this.... I need to eat to survive and if I don't find foods that I want/can eat then I will not eat enough calories to sustain weight loss and my body will begin to breakdown.
I am on this board for support and I found your message uncalled for.. I don't cramp, haven't had anything to cause me to dump since I eat a very on "track" diet with the foods I can eat. Why would I want to have this surgery reversed???? I think you are way off base stating that I am facing a lifetime of discomfort... bottom line is I think you were very rude.
Obviously you use this forum in a nonsupportive manner or maybe you are just compensating for only being 3 feet tall. In the future, do not respond to my posts.

clancythecamper,
I can do milk just fine... I will start doing 2cups of milk and the instant breakfast, I like those... that will cut down on the amount of protein shake I have to take in!!
Thanks!

| The point you are missing here Ball Wall is that when you have had this surgery the point of things being palatable is not even in play. When you have this surgery and your pouch says you cant eat this you cant force it just because you need it. And while we are in the healing stage things that taste good sometimes don't go over well with the pouch and won't stay down. And all of us here have taken months and months before we could even be approved for this surgery and all of us are aware that we will have problems down the line with food but you are acting like we woke up one morning and called the dr and said schedule me for surgery well it doesn't work like that. And we can tell you don't understand what we are talking about and what she was asking. So continue your study of the obese and get back to us in a few years ok..And if you are here to study us you should know more about the whole process before you start telling people how to deal with this.

I have found nothing but support and great advice on this board and would never doubt the intentions of those that have undergone, are going to undergo or are considering undergoing the life changing event of WLS. I am grateful for a place to go that offers so much information and emotional support for this journey, not to mention the opportunity to meet new friends. It saddens me to think that someone would join a community like this with no intention of becoming a honest, supportive member. There are many other places for the general public to go to learn about the effects of obesity or to persuade people not to elect WLS surgery...but this is not the place.
I'm sorry if my anger towards WallBall offended anyone, I generally do not engage in negative discussions like that, but I was so offended by his post that I could not ignore it. And in regards to my comment about him being 3 feet tall, I made that comment becuase when a person joins a community such as this and begins to post replies to other members threads, then that person usually creates a profile, introduces themself and establishes themself as truly interested in being supportive; however, WallBall failed to do any of those things...the only information he left about himself was that he was 3 feet tall, so I only assumed that was just one more piece of BS he offered.
Again, my apologies to all of the members of the board.
