| the noise continues
this was kind of inspired by the airline thread. of course i get to thinking and over analyzing and re-thinking. i feel kind of like an outcast. but then again i always was. i was never quite big enough to be considered morbidly obese or to "need" to go to this extreme etc. and then on the otherside of the coin i was NEVER thin. now, im a skinny b*tch according to my heavy friends. i have been told by someone who knew me before the surgery that i didnt understand when it came to being fat. EXCUSE ME??? i've been overwieght for 30 out of 31 years of my life.
here's an even more awkward situation for you. i work in a dr's office as a patient advocate. my job really isnt related to the current office staff but i will have to interact with them regularly for charts and patient info. the office manager and the front desk girl are heavy and sit around munching all day and talking about how fat they are but bashed the surgery and people who have it. they do not know i have had a bypass. i sat in silence today. but i dont know how much longer i can to be honest. i know i shouldnt care what people think of me and the choices that i have made to gain control of my own health but im stuck lol. i like the job itself but im thinking maybe this isnt going to work out lol. we'll see. im not going to be negative about it just yet....i plan to give it time. its a good opportunity.
im finding it more and more difficult to sit and settle when in conflict where as pre-op nothing like this would have bothered me to be honest. any thoughts?

Just Curious What Does A Patient Adovate Do? Sounds Interesting
I Dont Know Hun Give It Time. If You Like What You Do And The Job I Wouldnt Pay Attention To Them And Just Enjoy My Positions And Then Call It The Day. Dont Let Them Ruin Your Happiness, I Would Just Tune It Out. Who Cares, Thats There Prob If They Have Issues With The Surgery. Enjoy Your Job And See Where It Can Bring You. YOUR NOT THERE TO MAKE FRIENDS IF YOU DONT WANT TO

You have brought up a great point to which I have no anwser for. I can see myself in a situation like yourself and it would depend on the day and my mood. The ladies are in a way in denial. I know I was even after looking into the surgery. I thought hey I like food to much to not eat. Hopefully this wont be a daily talk in the office and you can go on with your own work.

in my particular instance, a patient advocate is someone who explains the changes that are occuring in the drs office and helps the patient choose if they want to continue with the practice (which is going private). if they want to stay they have to be enrolled under a new benefit plan; or if they want to leave. if they wnt to leave i have to transition them out ( find them a new dr, get their paperwork filled out and transfer their files etc) this is considered a separate project. the regular office staff will just do their regular stuff. i was hired by an outside company to do this on behalf of the dr, so i think theres some hostility there as well...who knows. it just left a bad taste in my mouth on the first day i suppose. im sure i'll get over it.

| Kenya - so picture this: You come into this office, work your magic with the patients, help them with all their transition stuff, the office girls get to know you think you're great and at some point, you mention your surgery and what a life changing experience and their jaws drop to the floor. You then take your size 4's and saunter off to do your thing while they try to figure out what to say. I may be weird, but I think it'd be great to be a fly on the wall for that one!

I like how Clancy thinks I would do exactly that!
But as I read your post I was thinking that it isnt fair for you to have to sit and listen to people bicker about something that has personally happened to you. At some point I would mention to them that you have had the surgery and would appreciate if they kept their comments to themselves because it has changed your life for the best and blah blah blah - you get my point. But I would definately let them know to shut the yapper! Then of course walk away with your head held high and like your Sh*t doesnt stink! ha ha joking....I dont blame you for getting annoyed or whatever you want to call it. I would be pretty upset. Keep us posted on if you say anything if you do I bet those ladies are gonna sit there in awwwwwww trying to think what the heck they are going to say.

It's never easy in these situations. Especially the job you are doing can cause some ruffled feathers anyways. I like Clancy's thinking. One day when they're stuffing their faces with snacks (not meals) and complaining about how much they weigh or how awful they feel, say something about not being able to eat so much since your wls, the good food choices you make now and how great you feel now and then walk away. Let their jaws drop and you may get some dirty looks, but it'll be interesting to see what they say to you next time after that!
